Can a Person Truly Change? Not Joking, Serious.
I was just presented with my GLP posting history and saw that I have been a liar, a racist, a judgmental hater, and really just an all around vile person. The person who presented this to me is absolutely right, I acknowledge it and I am honestly sorry for it.

The thing is, I considered myself a Christian and thought I was ok and was pretty confident. This just hit me in the eyes because I realize I posted from the heart and the truth of the matter is the heart is wicked.

I REALLY want to change. No playing. I want to become like Jesus and love instead of hate. Is it possible? Can a leopard really change his spots?

I know some will abuse me on this thread and I'll tell you right now, I'm just going to overlook your comments and go on, because I am looking for real answers. I will repent of my past and seek true forgiveness. But after that, what?

Please forgive me if I have said anything on here in the past that affected/effected you adversely. Please pray for me.

Idk, maybe circumstances can change people but I don't think anyone can force themselves to be something they're not.

Well, hopefully this will be that "circumstance". I am sick of me.

The promise of change is certain if you do your best to repent your sins. You will be cleansed of your sins and your guilt will eventually be swept away allowing change to follow!

“Men will be held accountable for the things which they have and not for the things they have not. … All the light and intelligence communicated to them from their beneficent creator, whether it is much or little, by the same they in justice will be judged, and … they are required to yield obedience and improve upon that and that only which is given, for man is not to live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”

Awareness of your shortcomings is the most major step you can take.

Don't wallow in the past, but don't forget it, either.

Sounds like you're on your way already.

I believe it is possible with sincere effort and willingness OP. You may have to be mindful and work at it but you can do it. You sound very sincere and I thank you, I truly believe the legend of the 100th monkey so that when one of us elevates and frees themselves or perceives a different way of being, it is communicated to the rest. We all can be free.

Pray for me too, ok?

Did you want suggestions for change? I might have some ideas.

You've already taken a few steps, now keep on walking. I'm proud for our kind when one of us has the courage to truly look at themselves.

We're trying to be happy in a world that doesn't neccisarily result in happiness.

Seeing your true self is the first step. Part of truly changing will be to make amends to those you have wronged, even if it causes you discomfort or losses.

Not too long ago, I became a Christian as well.

Change can occur, but it doesn't occur instantly, and importantly you have to want to change.

What I started doing, is instead of judging, I began to pray a lot more frequently for people, even for those who may offend me.

It's not easy, but keeping doing this, and then it eventually becomes more natural and like a habit.

It seems that because you are nice and kind and want to change and no one seems to treat you bad or unkindly is because like produces like or in other words you get what you give out basically.

So treating others well and you will get it back to you and perhaps the desire to be 'vile' will leave you.

Yes. I feel you have to truly want it, then acknowledge it to yourself & Higher Power. Your Higher Power has already forgiven you you just have to forgive yourself. No matter your religion or lack there of and No the Heart isn't wicked the mind is and our choices. The Heart just forgives your bad choices. I too have been a bad human and now am in the process of making the changes I need to, just remember to always share what you receive don't address to no one impartictular but share to whom ever, no address required.hf

I found this verse helpful as well. It serves as a powerful reminder by Jesus, that if we don't show mercy to others, God won't show us sinners mercy either, and this is a strong motivation.

Matthew 6:15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Yes you can change. The brain is "plastic" in that new neural pathways can be formed. You're not limited by mere habits, as new habits can be formed.

All you have to do it want it, & act on the desire.

If you're a christian, you can think this is what Christ meant when he said to be born again. You're walking east on a road & you turn around backwards & start walking west.

This is also existentialism - you do not like suffering the consequences of your actions so you do different actions in hopes of experiencing different results.

You can do anything you want to. You belong to yourself, & you are in control of you.

Re: Can a Person Truly Change? Not Joking, Serious.
I'll answer with "NO SHIT"

People change as they grow anyways so obviously doing different things and seeing different people will effect you personally as all people change through time.

Just start being a good person and boom, you will either grow into a good person from consistently finding joy in helping people, or you'll grow hardened and dislike helping others.

People change all the time and it's a stupid question.

Given enough time, a serial killer can become soup kitchen volunteer. Someone who loves animals, given enough time, can easily grow to become a hunter who desires animals deaths.

If you have the dedication and time, you can do whatever the fuck you want.

And Jesus wasn't perfect. He had to grow into the person the books tell us about and those are probably over exaggerated, if they're true at all.

Short answer: YES! Anyone can do it if they really want to.

It all depends on which wolf you feed. (Like the old Native American adage.) It takes conscious effort but can be done.
