The "medical device" they are referring to is the knee or hip implant or some other device like a pacemaker. The chip is in the hip or knee implant. The chip takes the place of the serial number and lot number sticker that is on the box the hip or knee comes in.

I used to Assist in surgery and when we did hip and knee implants that sticker from the box would go on the medical record in case of recalls.

I can see where what is in the law makes it sound like we are all getting an implant, but its just a high tech way of taking place of the peel off sticker.

Still... We're getting close.
