I'm not excited for what is in store for us Floridians. |

Sandy was just a tease i think of the future. |

Why put millions if not billions of dollars and War Ready resources in the path of a storm if all you got to do is fly them inland? |

Arthur coursed a dangerous route up the Pamilco likely causing heavy soundside flooding. The storm may have formed a new inlet near Buxton, ending the tourist season for villages south. I saw hurricane Alex, a cat one storm do major damage in 2004. I believe it's track was farther east. Fourth of July many there will never forget. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1550123 United States 07/04/2014 09:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Quoting: Anonymous Coward 54705353 Name origin The name Kill Devil Hills dates back to the Colonial era. Shipwrecks were common at the time, and many of the ships were transporting barrels of rum. When a ship foundered, local wreckers would scavenge what they could of the ship's cargo before it sank, hiding their pilfered rum behind, and sometimes in, the same large sand dunes where the Wright Brothers would later perform glider tests, before flying their first plane from level ground nearby. Since rum was called "Kill Devil" by the English at the time the dunes became known as "Kill Devil Hills." [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 52426779 United States 07/04/2014 09:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hurricane Season starts June 1 and goes through late November. There is nothing abnormal about this hurricane. It is currently a Cat 1 not a Cat 2. If you live anywhere affected by hurricanes you know that anything from a Cat 1 to low Cat 3 is grounds for a hurricane party...beer, food, games, etc. And you never evacuate when the .gov or media tell you to, so long as you're acutely aware of the storm science, official NHC updates, and your region's roads and routes to safety. It's like you all are from Ohio or something. |

P.S. remember the storm that FORMED AN EYE, OVER FLORIDA, (first one ever, over land) WITH 65 MPH WINDS, (first one ever, under 74 mph) then to petered out over the ocean. (but was forecast to increase to a cat. 2) |
