I have a friend who is gay and what annoys him most are when people first find out about it (who aren't anti or homophobic at all) but can't seem to help but act different towards him. As though he has a disability and now needs to be treated with extra respect or care. |

How do they find out he's gay? Does he tell them or does he just, you know, flaunt it? It's kinda hard not to notice when they wear bracelets that say "I love boys". When you find a piece of shit along side the road and you poke it with a stick, what do you expect to find inside of it, gold? No, it's just going to stink more. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59771470 Understand how this is also a form of ignorance/prejudice? Is there a direct term for this? Some people just don't want to be clumped in the haters group so they go out of their way to be nice. It's a form of paranoia and self esteem problems. When you find a piece of shit along side the road and you poke it with a stick, what do you expect to find inside of it, gold? No, it's just going to stink more. |

Just figuring out what it stems from can give it a name, subjective antiquerulus sounds like a good name. I thought you were actually trying to answer my question in the original post rather than for some reason bash on liberals. I want a term I could use in the real situation for when I'm accurately trying to describe this scenario. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 59771470 United States 07/04/2014 09:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like we will have to come up with a definition ourselves. A word describing the act of overcompensating in this This is why I ask. I saw a picture of the gay couple holding their new baby today. In the photo, the men are shirtless. I asked the girl showing me this photo. "Why aren't they wearing shirts?" (I found the answer) When she first showed me. She instantly got defensive as though I was offended by the photo (which I wasn't) She snapped, "What does it matter?!" I said "it doesn't but I'm still confused because I can't think of any reason as to what would lead them to becoming shirtless while their baby was being born." Her reply "What!? Does that bother you?!" Me "No.... You're getting very worked up over my curiosity at this" Her: "Because it doesn't matter!" Me: "I know. But they're both men. The woman gave birth and did all the labor. They simply waited and watched. Just curious why they should be shirtless.....you know?" At this point she was pissed. Convinced for some reason I was offended by the idea of the men having a baby and I just walked away. It's clear to me, that if she showed me a picture of a man and woman with a new born and I was curious as to why the husband had no shirt on in the birthing room, that she would shrug and say "hmm I dunno" and that would be all. Instead she was probing SO hard for a reason to get defensive that it was an abnormal reaction to my question. Later I found out that the men were instructed by the nurse to not have a shirt on when holding the new born for various reasons. That's all I wanted to know. Only because my first reaction wasn't 100% pure praise at the sensationalism of the photo, I was being targeted almost as a homophobe. I wish that I had a real solid word to pin her reaction down with. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59771470 Or somebody trying so hard to be pro-LGBT that they are actually countering the idea. You know what I mean? It sounds something like overcompensation. Racism is a fake concept engendering fake laws. If you obey God's laws, you don't cheat, lie, steal, murder, slander, or even desire anything that doesn't belong to you, you are fine and you have no need of any other laws to control your behavior. What is the point of adding racist law to the mix? Jesus warned against adding trivial things to the law and trying to skip or ignore the big ones, as listed above. Fussing at people about trivial regulations was what the Pharisees did, and Jesus couldn't spit enough insults at them for their crap. People who have an overweening concern with loading more legal burdens on people and troubling their consciences with trivial matters do cause people to turn themselves inside out, and turn their obsessions against others. It can be hard enough to follow God's laws and be a decent person, without having to deal with invented obsessions. |
