Generally the biggest problem behind drug development is finding.. Research goes in to each virus or disease based on it alone. But with a broad range of diseases, I see no reason why funding on this should ever be an issue.

But of course, there is always big pharma trying to save profits. They will weigh cost of cure vs cost of treatment. and if one outweights the other, they will do all within their power to save said profits.

True. But its not a simple "accept" or "deny" choice on their part. Fighting progress is an uphill battle for them (though they've slowed us down no doubt) But once the research is public, they can fight it, but other countries like Russia will just finish what we started.
