Did Jesus call his apostles friends or 'slaves/servants'? Is there a difference?
"These things I have spoken to YOU, that my joy may be in YOU and YOUR joy may be made full. 12 This is my commandment, that YOU love one another just as I have loved YOU. 13 No one has love greater than this, that someone should surrender his soul in behalf of his friends. 14 YOU are my friends if YOU do what I am commanding YOU. 15 I no longer call YOU slaves, because a slave does not know what his master does. But I have called YOU friends, because all the things I have heard from my Father I have made known to YOU. 16 YOU did not choose me, but I chose YOU, and I appointed YOU to go on and keep bearing fruit and that YOUR fruit should remain; in order that no matter what YOU ask the Father in my name he might give it to YOU." Re: Did Jesus call his apostles friends or 'slaves/servants'? Is there a difference?
Growing up, there are many times when a child is told things like "do not touch the electric outlet" or "do not touch the hot stove". It seems extremely rare to encounter one who takes a parent at his or her word and just does as he is told. Most of the time a nagging little voice inwardly suggests that the parent is simply trying to deny him something to which he ought to be entitled, as if the command is something burdensome or the parent is simply asserting dominance, just because. The shock or burn that comes from the disobedience of asserting his own will, rather than obeying, may precede the realization that the command was out of love, maybe until the child has children of his own and remembers the time he learned the lesson himself. For quite some time his relationship with the parent might seem subservient but one day it truly dawns on him that his relationship is that of father and son, mentor and friend, even if his father happens to be the king. There is a world of difference between believing and experiential knowledge. One comes by hearing and the other by doing. The servant works for the master but the son is born of him.

He called them friends, even though He could have called them servants. He cares and is compassionate.

An extremely well expressed reply, I could listen to this caliber of thought all day, it really makes up for the mas of bashing I get here, thank you for this.
"Who is wise and understanding among YOU? Let him show out of his fine conduct his works with a mildness that belongs to wisdom. 14 But if YOU have bitter jealousy and contentiousness in YOUR hearts, do not be bragging and lying against the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is [the] earthly, animal, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and contentiousness are, there disorder and every vile thing are.
17 But the wisdom from above is first of all chaste, then peaceable, reasonable, ready to obey, full of mercy and good fruits, not making partial distinctions, not hypocritical. 18 Moreover, the fruit of righteousness has its seed sown under peaceful conditions for those who are making peace.

Nice expression, not to be trite but technically his brothers are the ones that were chosen to be transformed into spirit creatures and resurrected in heaven to serve as assistant kings during his 1,000 year reign."
The majority of his disciples will inherit the earth after Armageddon and are considered his disciples or servants.
These can be seen after the 144,000 heavenly group in Rv7
" After these things I saw, and, look! a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes; and there were palm branches in their hands. 10 And they keep on crying with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation [we owe] to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
.......“These are the ones that come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 That is why they are before the throne of God; and they are rendering him sacred service day and night in his temple; and the One seated on the throne will spread his tent over them. 16 They will hunger no more nor thirst anymore, neither will the sun beat down upon them nor any scorching heat, 17 because the Lamb, who is in the midst of the throne, will shepherd them, and will guide them to fountains of waters of life. And God will wipe out every tear from their eyes.” Rv7:9
