Major_Pane User ID: 52534291 United States 07/07/2014 08:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Republicans are blaming Obama for the thousands of children crossing the border and being detained in the U.S. Republicans couldn’t wait to get in front of a camera to claim that the president was responsible for all of this. And they’re partially right. A president was responsible for this. In fact, it was the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Re-authorization Act that helped redefine how we handled undocumented immigrants from countries other than Mexico and Canada. Under this act the law requires that undocumented children from other countries be handed over to the Department of Health and Human Services to be cared for. They’re also given legal counsel and advocates to explain how to seek asylum or other ways to stay in this country. So when children from Central or South America come here, this act requires that we care for them. But I’m not saying Republicans are wrong for blaming a president for passing such an act that possibly encourages immigrants from non-contiguous countries to come here. They’re just blaming the wrong one. See, this act was signed in 2008 by President George W. Bush. |

Justina's law is seeking to overturn this and make it illegal for medical students to force children to endure unnecessary medical procedures just because some students need to practice on live humans. Justina was taken away from her parents on the word of one inexperienced doctor and forced into a psychiatric ward to be treated for a mental condition she did not have. Then she had to endure many unnecessary procedures while she suffered a misdiagnosis and was not be treated properly for a physical condition she did have. It was only after her story went viral that anything was done for her, and this was sixteen months later. If this can happen to her, it can happen to anyone. Even illegal children. |
