Why Has President Obama Deported More Immigrants Than Any President in US History?
Why Has President Obama Deported More Immigrants Than Any President in US History?

On March 13, President Obama ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to review its deportation practices, acknowledging the toll that record-high deportation rates are taking on local communities. A White House statement issued later that day read, “The president emphasized his deep concern about the pain too many families feel from the separation that comes from our broken immigration system.”

The President’s pledge came in response to growing pressure from immigrant rights advocates and progressive Democrats outraged by the Obama administration’s five-year deportation spree. Since taking the oath of office, Obama has deported immigrants at a faster rate than any other president in US history, nearly a record 2 million people. On a typical day, there are over 30,000 immigrants imprisoned in the world’s largest immigration detention system. Most deportees never see an attorney or have a hearing before a judge before they are expelled from the country. Deportation carries a high price for families and communities across America: one-quarter of all deportees are separated from their US citizen children and countless others from spouses and other family members

most likely it's because every time they require a legal immigrant to return to their home country before renewing their work visa they count it as a deportation.

Don't shoot the messenger damn im just giving you the raw data! This is from the Hill reputable source.

Immigration reform is alive, but not in Congress

Republicans claim it is the president's record on immigration enforcement that makes them unable to support reform. President Obama, however, has been deporting more immigrants than any president in history, nearing a record of 2 million people.

The advantage of executive action is clear: Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander and independent voters came out in large numbers to support Obama after halting deportations of Dreamers. Though there was a movement to repeal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), no Republican with a serious national profile dared touch it.

Should Obama act, the GOP would be in an even worse position to attack him: They will scream impeachment so they can return to legislating, although that is absurd considering their failure in legislating, and impeaching a president can only take place for "Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

Presidential leadership is no ground for impeachment.

Re: Why Has President Obama Deported More Immigrants Than Any President in US History?
Just like Iraq, immigration crisis has roots in GOP leadership

For all the bluster and blame-throwing by conservatives asserting that the Obama administration is responsible for the current immigration crisis, the roots of the problem are in a law passed in 2008 when President George W. Bush was in charge. As today’s New York Times notes, the Bush administration signed into law a measure designed to cut down on child sex trafficking.

The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 required certain judicial procedures to protect the rights of immigrant minors to prevent them from being deported back into the hands of individuals who were exploiting them in their home countries. It was a well-meaning, compassionate measure that focused on protecting kids from countries that don’t share a border with the United States, which means every country but Mexico and Canada. But the effect of the law was to enable unaccompanied, unauthorized immigrant minors to remain in the United States while their cases worked their way through the immigration court system. Because word got back to Central American countries that you can game the U.S. system, a flood of unaccompanied minors developed.

I’ve read lots of angry blog postings from conservatives asking why the Obama administration can’t just stop them at the border, or spank them and ship ‘em back to Mexico. Well, it’s never been that easy. First of all, U.S. border patrol officers can’t apprehend anyone until they’ve crossed into the United States. Once they set foot on U.S. territory, they are protected by the law, which mandates a lengthy judicial review to ensure their rights are protected. And many of those rights are enshrined in the law that Bush signed in 2008, and they are, today, the very measures that are blocking the Obama administration from taking more concerted action to stem the flow of child immigrants from Central American, currently numbering more than 52,000

That's total bull sit. Just like the job numbers. They're trying to tell us that unemployment is down to 6.1%... yet just about everyone I know is either out of work or is under-employed. The real unemployment numbers, if they actually count those who aren't working, is around 14%.

And as far as importing illegals. Wrong. I live in Tucson, man, and they ain't deporting shit.

They are however, and have been for quite some time, telling Border Patrol to "stand down".

I've been watching this shit play out for a couple of years now.

There is no way to get the true numbers on illegals in this country. I do believe both sides are in on it though. They always say that our immigrations system is broken and that is not true it is just not used we have policy and always have. Mexico doesn't want illegals and americans could not barge over their boarders and hole up and ask for welfare.Try to go to any of these countries and get medical food and housing it won't happen.

Because he changed the definition of 'deported'.

HOW THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION INFLATES DEPORTATION STATISTICS

For the last few years, the Obama Administration has claimed that it's deporting a record number of illegal aliens. But, the Administration is adding numbers to its overall deportation statistics that have not been historically included in the total number of annual deportations. Here's a look at how the Obama Administration has artificially inflated the number of deportations.

Re: Why Has President Obama Deported More Immigrants Than Any President in US History?
Who's the Real Deporter-In-Chief: Bush or Obama?

If you don’t follow the immigration debate closely, you may be a bit confused. The left is increasingly angry with President Obama, calling him the “deporter-in-chief.” That’s because the total number of deportations during Obama’s tenure recently passed 2 million. As Dara Lind wrote last week at Vox, that pace puts him on track to “have deported more people by the end of 2014 than George W. Bush did in his entire eight years.” Immigration groups like America’s Voice and publications like Mother Jones have made the same point.

The right is mad at Obama, too—but for the opposite reason. They say he’s deporting far fewer people than Bush, and has failed to adequately enforce the country’s immigration laws. Responding to Lind’s piece, and more generally to the arguments of the left, Sean Davis of The Federalist accused her of “deport[ing] the truth on immigration stats,” protesting: “Obama is most definitely not the leading deporter of all time. In fact, total deportations in 2012 were the lowest they’d been since 1973.” You can hear similar arguments from right-leaning places like The National Review and think tank the Center for Immigration Studies.

How is it possible that the two sides could look at the same data and see such different things? The key is how you define the term “deport”—and what you think about a broad change in policy that started during the Bush administration and has continued under Obama.

Under Bush, the majority of immigrants that the U.S. sent home were simply “returned.” Nobody took their fingerprints or put a permanent mark on their immigration records. Instead, U.S. authorities put them on buses and sent them back across the border. Between 2001 and 2008, there were over 8.3 million of these informal “returns,” according to the Department of Homeland Security. There were, by contrast, just 2 million “removals.” Those are the more formal deportations—the ones that go through some form of individual review, with an officer if not a judge, and become part of deportees’ permanent records.

But in the second half of the Bush administration, DHS decided to up the number of “removals” and limit the number of “returns.” The government hoped to deter immigrants from sneaking back into the country by making it clear that the U.S. knew who they were—and could punish them more harshly if they showed up again. Under Obama, DHS has stuck with this policy. Between 2009 and 2012, the number of deportations and informal returns was roughly the same—about 1.6 million each. Add up all the relevant numbers, you’ll see removals are on track to end up higher under Obama than Bush (Lind’s point in Vox) but that removals plus returns will end up higher under Bush than Obama (Davis’ point in The Federalist).

Most kids are born here and there's not a lot crossing illegal when they do they take advantage of the law. this article leaves out adults witch I know is close to 2 million now with biometric scanning and printing in the deportation process the returns will get harsher punishment.

Oh Mr. Notanonviolentnegro .......
Are you aware Mr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a registered Republican? He knew the truth then.
Personally ... now I wouldn't be a member of either major party and I doubt that Mr. King would be either, but ... when he was alive he knew the truth and it was not in the Dems. arena .... it never has been!
The reason Obama has fostered the arrival of more illegal aliens than any other Pres to date ... is so he will have a built in base of voters. They will never understand about true (or the reasonable facsimile of) freedom or the wonderfulness of this country (YOU will never know that thanks to public school brainwashing of your generation) and will always vote for the party that will give them what they think they want ..... that would turn out to be anything EXCEPT freedom. There is also another thing to know ... look past the illusion and see the truth ... see who they are really letting cross the border and why! This is well planned and just about the last nail in the coffin of this country. It seems to me that anyone under the age (well ... almost anyone) of 40 is an idiot, ignorant by choice, and too lazy to find the truth, so the country will fall.
I could be wrong about you but you sound to me like a petulant child, so I assume you are.

Re: Why Has President Obama Deported More Immigrants Than Any President in US History?
How has Obama been responsible for that at all?

It's not the president's job to deport immigrants. He must have been busy stamping those deportation forms, and maybe that's why he wasn't paying any attention to our economy or the middle east, etc.

If, and I stress the if, there are more immigrants being deported, it is because there are more coming into the country, and more local government offices enforcing laws, which is supposed to be within federal responsibility.

The unfortunate truth, is the president doesn't have the visibility to worry about deportation. He does have the visibility on enforcement strategies, securing our borders, national defense, etc.

So, if our current sitting president really wanted to fix the problem he would address its cause. Why do people come to our country without following the rules? What is the gain to them by not being legal immigrants?

These are the questions that should be asked if you want to begin to understand the problem.

Instead, I have a feeling the questions being asked are this: How do we give these people citizenship, and use them to galvanize the population, and ensure they are loyal to our party's platform? How can we through the course of breeding remove the opposition to federal authority in places like Texas and Arizona?

OP, stop being apart of the circus, and wake up.

Re: Why Has President Obama Deported More Immigrants Than Any President in US History?

You are very wrong about me Miss Lady I do not support Obama at all nor his policy of allow clemency to the brown race when he allow the black to drown at sea and be deported nooo you have me very misunderstood when Obama speaks of his secret Brown shirts I see them everyday on our police forces our judge benches in our Senate and House even now military when they used to run wild as gangs and in our prisons. Now they stand tall in our streets and demand shit like they really belong because they came over here and reproduced.
I ask you what do you see here when you watch this video?

I see two Mexicans that have assimilated to the white race and now taking away your freedoms!
I awake are you! If Obama has deported 2million people who was they? you got it.
