Traveling from Indiana to Tampa
so heres the deal. i had a trip planned from indiana to tampa florida. i just recently bought a car and found out yesterday that the plates are expired. i am trying to get the title switched over but it may take another week (which i dont have) the cop that told me about the plates told me that if i have proof im trying to get the title switched over i should be fine. but now im stuck in a pickle trying to figure out if its even a good idea to drive the car now. especially out of state.

would this be a good option to go with and just go to florida with this car? or should i find a rental car? if so, what would be the cheapest option?

Rent, why start you trip out with an existing problem that every cop in every state along the way will, at a minimum, stop you for.

You can google "coupons and promotional codes + car rentals" and the deals will come up.

I agree with this poster. florida highway patrol loves stopping out of state cars and giving tickets. also don't drive more than a few MPH faster than the posted speed. the stories about florida towns being speed traps are true.

??????????? What.. anytime you purchase a car... YOU must put the tag in your name with the county you purchased the car where you live.

The TAG goes with the PERSON... NOT THE CAR!

???????????? you did not know this???????

How old are you???? Life skills 101????

TRYING to change the title... WHAT?????? you have a bill of sale and the title... the title was SIGNED and sold to you... you take those to the Tag Office... and get new documents... Tag Title and Car Registration

ALL Vehicles do this.. cars. .... boats... rv's... trailers...

??????????????????????????????????????

well i got pulled over already and thats how i found out my plates are suspended. the cop gave me a ticket already. she told me she could help me get it dropped in november as long as the car is in my name. but she didnt give me a promise on other cops giving me tickets. and i was thinking out of state would be worse.

ill try rental places. i might just have to go for that.

i apologize i did not emphasize

the seller is still trying to get the "current title" she lost her old one, bought a new one. she never received it in the mail but found her old one. that is the copy i signed. so i have not been able to get the plates changed.

i went with her and even paid myself for a new title. i just have to wait for it.

now back to square one, i have proof of purchase, and a receipt with the sellers name proving we just bought a new title. i already have a ticket summons in november.

im expecting to get pulled over. i just dont know if its worse punishment out of state. and i dont want to get another ticket for trying to get this to work.

idk how to go about rental cars. would it be the same amount for gas?

Wow, you even had to take the time to edit to add colors to your font and to include the sarcastic jab about life lessons you forgot on the first go-around?

Have a read through this sentence of yours,

"YOU must put the tag in your name with the county you purchased the car where you live."

Thanks for providing such invaluable, concise information to the thread. I am sure your intuition alone sufficed to lead you through the legal hoops of titling the first car you purchased and that is why you have such a condescending atittude towards anyone else unable to display the same level of intuitive knowledge when it comes to experiential knowledge that you classify as skills that can be put to use to better one's life.

Is that how you make your own life better for yourself? By knowing how to buy and title a car and demean others who do not?

You probably only have about another 5 months of GLP before you are able to find a reason to hate any given OP. Best of luck on your journey.

You can probably show the court that the paperwork was delayed and they'll rescind the ticket. Had a broken tail light but didn't know it until the cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket. I bought the proof that the tail light was fixed with me to court and they waived the ticket.

You can contract the rental car for the week. If you are an AAA, costco, bj's, sam's club, member there are deals through them. Even some store credit cards have deals. But, I think to rent a car you have to be over a certain age or their is a surcharge.

This used to be the case research to make sure it is still true.
Expired out of State plates do not have to be current. So if you have a Florida plate that is expired you will be ok in GA.
I used to travel a lot and drove around the country on expired plates because I could not make it back to the issuing state for a few months. I was never pulled over once.

I just wanted to point out that it does vary by state...in Washington, the tag goes with the car and in Fl it goes with the owner.

Also, Op, tags are initially very expensive in FL, you may want to google up the DMV to see exactly and plan accordingly. I think it cost me over 200.00 for tags and license - but I had a credit for having had a vehicle registered in this state prior.

Also, I'm partial to St. Pete, across the Bay, just sayin.

I get a rental car with unlimited mileage for $125 a week. Put about 5000 a week on it when I rent my cars.

And dude....really! The tags. Lol
