It is easy to manipulate statistics. Whatever your input is influences your answers. If your input is not based on an adequate sample your answers will be different than if using a large population.

If in hospital bed keep your shoes on. Ststistically all who die in hospital are in a bed and have no shoes on.

You can prove any point with statistics, and then disprove it again with more statistics. depending on the angle you view it. statistics are useless. Just a tool used on the weak minded.

Statistics are by definition a manipulation. You manipulate data to produce an "average/mean," or when you want to understand the confidence interval of a certain set of data. Graphs are visual manipulations of said data, as well, so you can manipulate statistical data by creating a graph or chart.
Numbers don't lie, if that's what you're asking. They can be used to misrepresent, to mislead. If I told you that (regardless of your views)a certain gas composed 1% of the total atmosphere, this might perhaps mislead you into thinking, "1% that isn't much..."
But what if I told you that gas was a deadly neurotoxin that would be effective at a composition of 0.5% of the total atmosphere? Big change in how you perceive things...
That's the power of misusing statistics. You need to have a firm understanding of what the material is that the data is discussing. You need to be able to understand the method that derives the numbers, or else the numbers have no meaning.

It's very difficult to get a straight answer from a statistician. One I hired asked me point blank what answer I wanted. When I said "the truth" he rolled his eyes and laughed and said he's see what he could do.

That's why they were invented. Most people are intimidated by numbers, so it's an easy way to get people to shut off a big part of their brain and blindly accept whatever they are being told.

in our college statistics classes they taught us that the first thing in statistics you need to know is you can make statistics say anything you want. Just leave something out, and you will get you results. Besides the obvious scams of internet polling. Statistic cpscams. Anytime they say statistics say this's or that. They are lying
