Ever heard of evaporation? Yep, that would happen in a fountain, so all water can't possibly be recycled.

Well, and my though process was, even if they do use recycled water in toilets, showers, golf courses and fountains, what does the original water get used for? You have to have original water to use to make recycled water.

So huge amounts of water are still being used if there is enough recycled water for all cleaning, showers, etc for 250,000 hotel rooms. That doesn't even take into account golf courses.

Trying to bring GLP together. I'm still collecting flags from posters all over the world. Thread: Official "Flags from around the world" thread. Hoping to get posts from all countries that frequent GLP.

Glad I moved from there...

Better believe it!

I left in 2010 and don't look back one moment.

California was already sucking out Nevada's water back then and I guarantee with Pelosi's Monsanto it isn't going to stop anytime soon.

Re: Doom On: Lake Mead Down To 39% Full
Funny thread. There is only one reason that Lake Mead is low, and that is that the guvment has some policy to keep the Colorado delta nice and watered.

Each and every day there is approximately 25,000 acre feet of water released through the dam. The required annual amount is about 9 million acre feet. Although the daily release fluctuates by around 10%, the totals come out the same.

Here is the thing guy's and gals, if this much water had been released since the lake was first filled, it would be a small puddle by now. I have intently watched the water levels for about 15 years via the internet--I also have frequented the lake since 1972 (long time Las Vegan).

Another little shocker for you all; the south western US is always in a friggen drought. Although we have had 2 shitty water years in a row, this is nothing new. It has happened many times before, and yet several times the spillways had to be opened up (during the last thirty years) before the water caused damage. When there is a good year, it can be really good. It can work wonders if the long term planning is actually trying to maintain the lake levels.

The big part of the long term plan was to create a reservoir system--and we all have an idea how and why such systems are used. If water is released like every year is a good water year, you will be going backwards for a long time--until there is nothing left.

BTW, Las Vegas hardly puts a dent in Lake Mead's water level.

Nevada was a johnny come lately for the rights to the river water. Arizona and kalifornia get almost all of it. Hell, Nevada does not even get any electricity form the dam.

Although I am concerned about the water levels, I view the problem as government policy rather than any thing to do with climate or over use. Lake Powell is also rather low, but they reduced its outflows quite a bit this year. Generally speaking, when Lake Powell is rising, Lake Mead is dropping--this system has faltered recently. New water intakes had to be built for Las Vegas as the old ones were going to be in shallow and dirty water--the level is low.

Lake Mead holds about 25 million acre feet of water--it has about 10 million left--it ain't drying up just yet. Even at an eight of an inch per day, it will be a long time before it's gone.

I suspect that the new outflows has to do with some BS treaty with Mexico.

Anyway, there is a lot more to this story than a lack of mountain snow for a couple years. For those that are interested, a link;

historically the colorado river - to thick to drink, to thin to plow.

...

What isn't publicized is the terrorist bombing that happened there around 2003 or 2005. My wife and I arrived right after it happened. Wires everywhere. Lots of destruction on the Nevada side where the bridge was being built.
Who could have planted that many bombs there to do that kind of damage??
I never heard a word about it after we left. Federal cops everywhere.
It was very tense.

There MUST be story links to that.

I just checked Google again and they're still isn't anything on it. That is so freaking weird.
I saw it. I was there. I saw shit everywhere.

I vaguely remember hearing about it as well. I have family in LV and was worried. Hmmmmm.

I remember one of the cranes collapsed around that time maybe that was what you're looking for.

Re: Doom On: Lake Mead Down To 39% Full
A simple google search would show everyone that the whole state of Nevada only gets 300,000 acre feet from Lake Mead as a part of their water allocation. California takes a whopping 4.4 million acre feet and Arizona takes 2.8 million acre feet. In Southern Nevada, all reclaimed water and sewage is cleaned and recycled back into the lake, allowing Southern Nevada to pull more water out, but maximum use for all of Las Vegas is 300,000 acre feet annually. For people to think that this is Las Vegas' fault for the water receding at the rate that it has, are casting blame incorrectly. Go google how California has been taking so much water over the last decade that they knew what to do with it, that they started diverting water just to fill up the Salton Sea in an attempt to try to desalinize it a little. Google how farmers across the southwest are growing alfalfa strictly for export to China. 1 acre foot of water is enough to supply 2 homes with water for a year, and these alfalfa growers are using up to 8-9 acre feet of water per acre, annually.

But in either case, Las Vegas WILL run dry in less than 5 years, and the American South West will be forever different. My only idea for a solution to the problem is to deport all the illegals that take from our water supply, as it would reduce water consumption, traffic, crime, and over crowding in schools. Everyone wins.
