Satellite photos detect activity at NKorea missile bases: report

TOKYO (AFP) - North Korea could be preparing for new launches of mid-range missiles following last week's tests, with activity detected at its bases, a report has said citing Japanese government sources.

US and Japanese satellite photos show that mid-range Rodong missiles had been set up on launch pads at a base in southeastern North Korea, but were later removed, the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reported.

Fuel tanks could be seen near the launch pads, the report said.

The report said the satellite photos were taken after last week's tests of seven missiles, but did not give a specific date.

"We think North Korea can launch missiles whenever it wishes," the top-selling daily quoted a government source as saying.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso on Sunday suggested Tokyo would have the right to launch a pre-emptive strike to protect its citizens from a missile launch by Pyongyang.

He said there were "visible signs" of activity at a North Korean missile base from which North Korea launched a Rodong missile last week.

Japan submitted a draft binding resolution in the United Nations Security Council that would impose sanctions on North Korea over the missile tests.

But on Monday, the Security Council put off a vote on the resolution to allow more time for Chinese diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis.

We are instigating this conflict to test our defenses for use in space.
It serves a triple purpose, the one above, creates a hair raising ordeal of nuclear confrontation and one purpose that can't be stated.

Well, store any electronic gear that you want to use after the first nuke goes off....

Because you can guarantee a high altitude detonation if a nuke is used. Hopefully the USA is stockpiling electronic parts and generators deep below with shielding for this type of protocal

Those between the ages of 18 and 38 really don't want another war. (I think max. age was listed as 38)On 6-6-2006, the possibility of bringing back the draft was discussed in Congress. The original proposal was in Feb. 2005.

If there's another war...there will another draft.

Not necessarily. OP Plans have always laid NK out as a Sea and Air-based campaign...you won't see a ton of troops deployed there...like Iraq. We've got over 1,400,000 military personnel right now, with only around 200,000 deployed to combat zones...we've got plenty to work with.

Really? You think so? Then tell me why The Universal National Service Act of 2006 was introduced to the House in February 2006 and is now being discussed by the committee of Armed Services? Part of it's description is this:

To provide for the common defense by requiring all persons in the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

February 14, 2006
Mr. RANGEL introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services

And it was benched.

Lots of countries have National Service requirements...and every few years someone tries to get it going in the US...it never makes it.

Funny how everyone panics when the idea of being obligated to give a little bit of time back to the country you are citizen of is brought up. "I want to live in this country and reap the benefits, but I don't want to have to do anything in return for such things!"

Yes, Malice. That's exactly what I brought up, the draft and the service act. You still haven't answered my question about panic and not wanting to serve one's country. There wasn't the first note of panic in any of my posts.

My apologies for jumping to conclusion if your intention was not to complain about said subject. Generally...especially on this site...someone brings up draft and/or the Universal National Service Act for the sole purpose of complaining about it/tying it to conspiracy. It's really not as rare a concept to the rest of the world as it is to a lot of ignorant Americans who take their citizen for granted.

Damned, DAMNED, dangerous.

I don't think we'd last a day in conventional doo dah with NK.

General Douglas MacArthur warned after World War II that we should never get involved in a land war in Asia because we did not understand the Asian mind.

Nukes are unnacceptable for very obvious reasons, everybody loses in a flash.

While Nukes are really a no-win tool for anyone...I take the slightest bit of comfort knowing the United States is equipped with the cleanest, most efficient nuclear weapons in the world.

And we don't wrap our weapons in cobalt to increase Gamma radiation like the Russians.

And generally, even in the flash of nuclear holocaust, I like to consider myself a winner. It's always good to have a positive mindset. :)

Thank you, Malice. I appreciate that. For the record, my original statement was to wake "some" of the younger folks up, who make fun of happenings in the world right now. Things are a bit more serious than many of them realize.
As an added note: My uncle served 6 years in Nam, my cousin 3 years, I was sitting with my boyfriend in the living room (1969? close enough), watching the draft on t.v., when his brother's birthdate was pulled he was sent to Nam for brief period. I had to walk my bestfriend to her locker after she was informed at SCHOOL OVER THE TELEPHONE that her brother had been killed in Vietnam. My dad and his brother, WWII, U.S.Navy. That's why I took offense to your statement. Please accept my apology for snapping at you as well. I understand you message too.
