Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 47078040 United States 07/23/2014 06:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Have found some information on the storm. Apparently, a lightning strike occurred in an NV Energy substation south of Carson City, Nev. "The substation gives power to both NV Energy and Liberty Utilities substations in South Lake Tahoe that provide electricity to the community. Power was out for about six hours for some customers. South Lake Tahoe's police department was without power because "...their generator did not operate as it should...". All 9-1-1 calls were re-routed throught the Placer County Sheriff's department in Placerville, CA. During the storm, some people in South Lake Tahoe were kept informed of the power outage caused by the weather through the use of its Facebook page. About 15,000 people saw the Facebook postings, (I didn't because I don't use Facebook, and my landline phone system was without power, der!) The SLT police department had the same problem their landlines were without power. They used cell phones to issue information. South Lake Tahoe is now, "...asking the public to register their cell and landline phone numbers to receive updates in emergency situations. People can register at ready.edso.org..." due to this storm. More info can be found at this website: [link to www.tahoedailytribune.com] |

Sounds like a nasty storm. Typical US infrastructure. That police station should be testing their systems at least once a month for reliability....idiots. Thanks for updating thread Married to a ginger |

We were without power for four days in the middle of summer in Missouri.do not disrespect lighting! Quoting: O Dog of Maddness 58603959 Days for a transformer?
