How does she know you were 'born with it' if it's an unknown disease?

Re: My therapist said..
OP here is what I posted in a thread on this subject matter:

Dr. Lester Grinspoon, Professor Of Psychiatry Emiritus at Harvard University, who has been studying marijuana since 1967, says cannabis does not cause schizophrenia:

[link to www.scribd.com]

In 2005 the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (British Government) reviewed the medical literature, held hearings and concluded that Class C indeed was the appropriate category (classification of cannabis). The Council's report stated, "for individuals, the current evidence suggests, at worst, that using cannabis increasing lifetime risk of developing schizophrenia by 1%".
---
"Smoking marijuana does not cause schizophrenia." (Grinspoon)
---
The Lancet paper is "a meta-analysis of studies that are themselves flawed," says Grinspoon (who discredited some of them himself. "It greatly exaggerates the risk to the individual."
---
According to Grinspoon, the cannabis causes schizophrenia line is disproved by the absence of "even a blip in the incidence of schizophrenia in the U.S. after millions of people started smoking marijuana in the 1960's." The prevalence of schizophrenia in adults is about 1% worldwide and seemingly independent of whether or not cannabis use is widespread in a given country.
---
A meta-analysis in Lancet in 2004 stated, "Cannabis use appears to have increased substantially amongst young people over the past 30 years, from around 10 percent reporting ever use in 1959-1970, to around 50% reporting ever use in 2001 in Britain and Sweden." If the relationship between use and schizophrenia was truly causal and is the relative risk was around five-fold, then then the incidence of schizophrenia should have more than doubled since 1970. However, population trends in schizophrenia incidence suggest that incidence has either been stable or slightly decreased over the relevant time period.
---
But the increase in THC content is not a sudden phenomenon, it has occured over the course of decades (documented in the U.S. by DEA analysis of confiscated cannabis). The incidence of schizophrenia has not risen accordingly.

 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

If there is any correlation (not causation), it's likely that individuals who are predisposed to or experiencing the onset of schizophrenic symptoms are more likely to pursue a means of self-medicating - of which cannabis is a likely outlet....

If cannabis use is contributing to anxiety and/or paranoia that is disruptive, it's best to discontinue use.... For all users, moderation is highly recommended and LESS IS MORE....
 Quoting: ANHEDONIC

Marijuana Compound May Beat Antipsychotics At Treating Schizophrenia
[link to psychcentral.com]

A certain marijuana compound known as cannabidiol (CBD) can treat schizophrenia as well as antipsychotic drugs, with far fewer side effects, according to a preliminary clinical trial.
--
The remaining 20 patients were given CBD, a substance found in marijuana that is considered responsible for the mellowing or anxiety-reducing effects. Unlike the main ingredient in marijuana, THC, which can trigger psychotic episodes and worsen schizophrenia, CBD has antipsychotic effects, according to prior research in both animals and humans.
--
“Not only was [CBD] as effective as standard antipsychotics, but it was also essentially free of the typical side effects seen with antipsychotic drugs.”
--
He notes that CBD not only had fewer side effects, but also seemed to work better on schizophrenia’s so-called “negative symptoms,” which are notoriously hard to treat.
--
If replicated, the results suggest that CBD may be at least as effective as current medications for the treatment of schizophrenia, without the severe side effects that make patients reluctant to take medication.

Re: My therapist said..
If ingesting cannabis is contributing to your anxiety & paranoia then you may want to stop because it may be contributing to symptoms linked to your underlying 'condition'. If you live in a medical cannabis state you possibly could explore strains that are very high in cannabidiol (CBD) content (see article I linked above) and see if that helps with the symptoms. If you don't live in a medical state it would be pretty difficult to know what type of strain you're ingesting unless you know the grower.

Re: My therapist said..
Pot will make you more schizophrenic I believe OP
there's a lot of politics regarding what it does and does not do. None of what people say about it has anything to do with truth, but instead what they want to believe
Drugs are not good things for people who have schizophrenia
I suggest you stop
