Most likely lay there and die. My lungs are screwed anyway. That amount of ash would most definitely kill me in short order.

You're headed out the door about to leave your house and you look off towards the horizon and see thick volcanic ash begin to cover the sky from one end to the other.

What would you do??

Duct tape all doorways and vents and then party like it's 1999.

^^ This...

Also you can use panty hose and duct tape to act as a temporary filter for air conditioner intakes. cool2

well...

If you get past the crustal displacement theory...

In regards to proposed planet wide earthquakes...
and a massive chain reaction of volcanos taking off globally..

Id probably just stay in a couple weeks, then go looting.

But then again, I live in nw Washington...

So unless it sets off rainier, or a massive 200ft high tsunami with a 10.0 eq. I feel relatively safe...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60629329

You might want to head close to the irradiated Pacific ocean or venture south nearer to southern California over those couple weeks.

It is going to get pretty darn cold if you are too far from the equator.

When Tambora erupted back in 1815 the global temperature dropped 5 degrees (F), they called it the "Year without a summer", crops and livestock died. (this was long before people became dependent on large industrial farming for their food)

Tambora was a baby burp compared to a so-called "Super Volcano" eruption like Yellowstone.

Here is a little map of ash found from 2 previous eruptions:
[link to volcanoes.usgs.gov]
 Quoting: Rabid Wolf

This map isn't entirely correct

I lived in San Fransisco bay area when St. Helens erupted and we had ashfall. Not much but enough to scrape off the surfaces and collect.
 Quoting: Sireenie

I believe they set a minimum depth of accumulated ash to consider it a direct ash fall. You got trace amounts from St. Helens, just a dusting of ash blown in by the wind, so they didn't include it.

That map only shows where the bulk of the ash landed, but it is a good starting point.

It's death for anyone inside a 600 mile radius of the caldera. If you're fortunate enough to have an air purification system in place in your stocked underground bunker, you'll be OK. Otherwise head away from the epicenter as fast as you can. East of the Mississippi might buy some time, but life as we know it will cease to exist.

It's not gonna happen though.

Know what? That it's not gonna blow? I don't. Simply opinion based on what I've read. Nothing substantiated though. I did read that the initial explosion would wipe out all human life within a 600 mile radius of Yellowstone. Will I be prepping here in Chicago? Probably not. I'm giving Yellowstone enough time for mankind to get their shit together and be able to control the environment with our positive thoughts as we raise our collective consciousness. We are more powerful than we think we are. (still opinion)

One last thingy, I do have a bio/chem (gas) mask...but I figure the ash would clog up the filter in short order...

So I'm thinking of wrapping the filter in about 5 pair of clean sox (a filter for the filter - if you will).

When volcanic ash mixes with the moisture in your lungs, it turns into cement.

Re: Let's say Yellowstone erupted...
Well to be honest only a man in the history succeeded to survive even if was into a pyroclastic flow path but...

1) he was very lucky
2) he was injured
3) at that moment he was into the shelter of subterranean cell of a very solid prison
4) the flow just had less than 1/100000 of the energy of the yellowstone predicted flows

So in short: if you have not a very solid and isolated subterranean shelter, just pray. The death is very fast when it arrives as it is so hot that the blood boils and the vapor of blood make the skull to explode very fast...

Start filling everything up with drinking water.

Seal my doors & windows with plastic & duct tape.

Start making breathing filters out of any cloth I can find.

Hope and pray my roof doesn't collapse from the weight of the ash.

God, you've thought about this. Where are you in location to this thing? redfaceWell, For one I know when it will erupt and I have been speaking out since 12/25/2013. You did not know it was me and still you do not believe. Why would I come down in person anyway? Well So I could burn you of course. Vengeance is upon you all for your nation is the great harlot who sits on many waters and you will become stripped for you defy me and your worshiping has brought me. Think about your mistakes and repent for your sins and turn away from that which is wicked. Do this and I will come down and lift to me through the O'Holy Spirit. Where am I? I am in the middle of you. I am a flesh body man where the Word O God is spoken. Your being warned. Unite and leave this earth. Do it now before it is to late. I am the one causing your destruction!
