Re: BREAKING: ANOTHER UCLA Water Main Break
Water restrictions means more water/pressure in the system, hence the busted pipes.

Also they are a hundred year old pipes.

LA DWP does not inspect the pipes in the city, they would liable if they did. They just wait for them to break.
THINK ABOUT THIS!

The universe created life to be observed, without an observer, it never existed. So it is a mathematical proof that the universe created life.

Re: BREAKING: ANOTHER UCLA Water Main Break
If that's happening at the Target store near UCLA, then it's not on the campus and has nothing to do with the school. It also sounds like a problem with internal plumbing. That Target is in an old converted department store, so sections of its internal system are at least over 60 years old.

Re: BREAKING: ANOTHER UCLA Water Main Break
Can be expected. The main that broke was almost 100 yrs old. They had problems shutting things down because the valves more than likely hadn't seen maintenance in 40 or 50 years. Now all the pressure surges are going to cause more breaks. Wouldn't be at all surprised if more breaks happen in the coming months.

Then, as a lot of you probably know, they'll just cut both ends of the break, weld a patch on it & call it good. Then the rest of the pipe will continue to break in the years to come. Why won't they fix it right? It'll cost too much, ie: they'll have to cut pensions etc.

Gotta love L.A. and California!

Water main break reported at Target on UCLA campus; water pouring through ceiling - Via FOX LA

Could this be Earthquake related what is happening underground to be causing the mains to break like this?

The pipes in the area are all 100+ yrs old.

They may as well be made of wood.

I live in LA, Btw

I don't think I could ever live in LA........just thinking about it makes me shutter
 Quoting: mddg424

Just overcrowded a bit, other than that its ok, not bad...However you got earthquakes to consider. Nowhere on earth is ideal & perfect.

I'm willing to spend a couple extra bucks to shop at a Target, rather then go into the weirdness of a Walmart.

Buried bones 100's of years old found in dry desert regions are found still intact. If the ground builds pressure on the bones then will crush them like an egg.

Pipes are many times stronger than bones. Hit one with your hand just to be sure I'm not BSing.

Non-union guys break pipes too. Even carefully located and marked; if you must dig in a given area sometimes things just happen.

If you take the time to be super careful somebody is yelling at you for taking too long.

Been there; done it; got the pin.

You must be from Colorado! Saw a locator completely miss a Telco cable, that "no one knew was there" and wiped out service to 10,000 homes. Then spent 7.5 hours looking for a valve. The pothole crew drilled 11 yes 11!! holes no luck! Finally an old foreman walked the intersection dowsing with coat hangers. Put the pothole crew 18" to the left of it in under 10 minutes. Go figure.......

You sure that wasn't a typo? Did you mean 1.25 EQ? If so I think you might've nailed it!
