I wouldn't label it as sociopathic though. It's pure emotional need and selfishness. Sociopathic implies pure logical definition towards self-benefit. Most of the youth I've encountered with no sense of self are emotional basket cases who simply "need" and have no idea why.

This also plays into the case that people aren't self-examining themselves. Ask any person the question "why?" on particular viewpoints and they'll give you blank stares. What they expected was agreement, or a counter sound byte psyop to which they could re-counter with their own piece of media trivia.

I would say you're right about empathy being viewed as weak, but I would go further and say many simply don't understand it because they have no sense of self. How can someone possibly hope to understand another human being when they don't even know the root of many of their own feelings?

The situations are somewhat different in cities, and in small towns. Good people are valued more in small towns where there is some accountability.

There have been a lot of men/boys on here posting lots of disinformation, and essentially whining about how they can't find a women because they're nice, but they are using these cardboard definitions to define their own personality, and expect society to give them a medal for not being very good at lying.

It's the truth of one's self that allows one to have a good relationship. If you don't know who you are, how can you know what you want?

There's no reason to hate someone who acts foolishly unless they affect you. Being able to recognize it though, helps protect you from making poor choices.

What I've found in my research is that there are a lot of self-absorbed pricks that think that acting like assholes actually endears people to them.

I'm male, close to 50 and I've been married for 12 years. Maybe I was just incredibly lucky to end up in a happy marriage on the first try, but before I met my wife I had never dated anyone (and yeah, I was a virgin). Just didn't see the point in it as I had never met a woman I could connect with on emotional and intellectual level. I never saw casual sex as truly casual either - there was always a price (hurt, grief, guilt and messy human relationships both for men and women). Too little benefit for too high a price.

I never waited intentionally as if to "save myself for the one true love". I was perfectly consigned to living the rest of my life as single. There was absolutely no pressure. The she happened, and I've never regretted my choice. After spending over a decade together and having been through all kinds of crap, we're still going strong.

However, don't rush into relationships. I was well past my 30th birthday when I started dating for the first time. Even if you end up never getting into a romantic relationship or never having sex, don't worry about it. You can live a perfectly good life without either. Relationships and sex are overrated. They can be great fun, but you can live an interesting life without them, too.

If, like me, you don't have religious reasons to get married ASAP, live a couple of years together before getting married. It will give you a good indication of what your life together will be like.

One advantage in getting into a relationship rather late in life is also that you two already have some life experience. You tolerate (gender) differences better, you understand human weakness and failure, and can forgive more easily. You have no reason to show off anymore and are beyond the usual 20-something headgames. You already understand that life is a friggin' mess and so is your partner.

Look, if you're so desperate for sex, but have no wish for a relationship, and fear commitment to any other human being because you have trust issues. You still don't have to act like an asshole.
