This is true. The telephones microphone can be activated remotely even if the phone is turned off. Without the battery it is useless.

KEEP THE SCREWS REMOVED FOR EZ ACCESS
TO REMOVE battery. Battery is held by 1 or 2 more screws depending on model, remove screws and phone still works disconnect battery when phone not in use paranoid freaks

most smart phones i believe have a smaller emergency backup battery that kicks in if the main battery dies or is removed.

i say whats the point in going through all the trouble of removing the batteries when they sell CASES to put phones in that block all transmissions.
