L---|---> Something weird about commercial airplanes flying around my house!

I have noticed that within the last week or two that any flying object (and by that I mean airplane, commercial airplanes, helicopters) all flying pretty low.

I have bought my house and lived here for 11 years and know just about every flight path taken. Recently there have been flight paths that I have not recognized and these commercial planes are flying low enough that I can see windows on the planes with my eye. Usually I can only see the bottom of the plane after hearing the noise go by. I know this because I have a 5 and 4 year old boy that I would always have to point up and show them where the airplane was in the sky because it was so high.

Also just the other day, A black helicopter was flying so low, just right above my tree lines, that I thought it was going to crash.

I should note that I live in a rural area with no airport nearby. The closest airport is about 1 hr to my south. Most of these planes are flying to the east of my location to perhaps JFK.

I guess there could be many possible explanations such as, compass errors at the higher latitudes, jet-stream? Perhaps something is happening at the higher attitudes such as the Earth's Magnetic field is weakening or switching?

Has anyone else noticed this and if so does anyone have any idea as to why they might be flying so low recently?
