If the cop wanted your info for nefarious purposes, he could get everything he wanted simply by getting your license plate number. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5804So he wanted your SSN? Weird, but I wouldn't worry about it. If he wants to do you harm he could do it anyway. Best to not upset them or they'll beat you to a pulp and simply say you were belligerent and resisted arrest. You can't win when you deal with the police. Sad but true. Your reply seems to ring more true to me then the pig lover 116975. Thanks for your reply. You're welcome, 83654. Understand that I agree with you. I don't like the idea of giving my "papers" to the police. Not at all. It's just that the easier thing to do would have been to give the cop your SSN. I would have. It's not like they can't get it anyway and if you refused it might have caused a confrontation with the police officer - and you don't want or need that. Sadly, the US is on the brink of becoming a total Police State. And the citizens, of course, are just rolling over and accepting it. Whatcha gonna do? /shrug Peace to you. I hate it when mine is the last post of the previous page. |

Granted there are some cops who aren't the most upstanding, but there are alot of cops who are there to help. did you give the cop a description? Cause they will need that when they are out there searching for the infamous "car kicker" |

I did not know if this guy who attacked me had a weapon on him, high on drugs or drunk or was a threat to other individuals. I would not have called the police unless I thought it was really an emergency. The officer looked like he could not wait to get back down the the dunkin donuts after getting me on the grid. |

| answer User ID: 10555 07/14/2006 05:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live in NJ and my licence number is not my SS number. I feel liek an idiot now for giving him that information.. Quoting: Amazed 83654Do you think I should call the police station and ask them why the ywould need that info? I am a little irked right now. get a lawyer sue the state fed law prohibits the use of ss #'s by law inforcement ..oh yeah, better add an army to that list of defensive items on your shopping list... |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 9570 07/14/2006 07:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It happened to me too, after a minor traffic accident. When he asked for my SS #, I readily gave it to him, but felt uneasy as to why he NEEDED it. I thought maybe it had to do with do ing a nationwide search to see if I was "wanted" for anything. How could I say no ? He could twist my arm behind my back, dislocate my shoulder, cause me excruciating pain, and then claim I "resisted" him. Why risk pissing him off ? But, I'm still angry he didn't EXPLAIN why he needed it. |
