Anonymous Coward 08/12/2014 08:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's definitely resting on the ground, it's not coming out of the ground. It looks like it has horizontal parallel line patterns on it. Look like a piece of debris from some kind of machinery. Like the kind that would probably be going to Mars, and would be susceptible to breaking off. As for the area in the middle, it looks like bent plastic, which gets that white look in the stressed area. In addition, I think the middle of the piece looks slightly melted. That, or it's shed skin. |

My guess is that it is a piece that perhaps was torn off that was caught in one of the landers joints and fell out when the lander exercised that joint. Quoting: halman That or photoshop. ------ If that were the case, I would find it shocking that NASA would be so careless. Of course I find your theory highly unlikely. Yes, because it's far more likely that Marvin the Martian is wondering around dropping litter everyplace. lmao |

It's clear that there are at least three English letters written on the piece of plastic. There's a clear "E" there, but it looks as if what is written there is "... A E R". Seeing as it's folded once over itself vertically the letters could very well be part of a bigger piece of plastic that read "CLEAR". If that's the case it could very well been some long stuck-on piece of translucent plastic on Curiousity since it landed. Quoting: darkwolf007 The writing looks Russian to me. How many "landers" did Russia crash on Mars? 2,3, maybe more? And that was back in the 70's. Plenty of time to blow around the surface of Mars. Here is a contrast enhanced, color removed version: [link to imgur.com] That's also a possiblity. Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker. A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, 'You are mad; you are not like us." -- St. Anthony The Great Social Credit Loser here. |

Remember that tiny scrap was spotted after curiosity started its first soil sampling activity. Why would it be unlikely to have fallen out of any of that equipment? Why would they take a whole day out of the programme to photograph and study it, if it was something they wanted to cover up? K |
