Are you talking about one of the doctors in the Baylor presentation?

Forgive me for being rude, but considering the firehose of crap and lies they sprayed everybody with, I wouldn't even attempt to be a character witness for them.

I did not watch it, but I know he would not do that.

I listened to it with great sadness and some anger - that these professionals would be so ill-informed, or worse, deliberately deceiving the public under the aegis of reducing panic.

I'm dubious that someone who knows one of these doctors posts on GLP - but for the sake of argument, I'll play along.

Let's take a look at what they said (thanks 52862947):

- Can't happen in Dallas! This sub-claide of Ebola plays by a new rulebook - never say never.

- Influenza is 100x more contagious than Ebola. The R-O of this virus in on par with Influenza, perhaps 3 - 5.

- Low risk of getting it unless you travel to the affected area. Many countries have reported individuals with Ebola symptoms.

- Do have to get in contact with infected animals or their byproducts. Getting it from another person is unlikely. Tell that to the victims of Mr. Sawyer, some 200 at this point. Oh, I'm sure he french-kissed them all, or at least urinated on them.

- Only two Ebola victims in the US. There's at least 6 and likely many more.

- Doubts this will go world-wide. It likely already has.

- Persistent fevers of 102 to 103 degrees F cause for concern (duh).

- We need to recognize WHO and other organizations are working this issue. An appeal to authority, an apologetic tactic.

- Virus contained in Africa. Reference my snide comments above.

- We have the technology well beyond Liberia in our hospitals. There's no cure at this point and what is indicated is supportive care, or palliative.

- ZMapp isn't proven to work. Right for once.

- Trying to calm down the fear of Ebola. Yep, they actually said this.

- Go to the WHO / CDC websites for information. Respect WHO's AUTHORITAH!

So there you have it. That's what they said. Just because someone is a MD doesn't mean they have stellar character.

I used to date an upstanding MD GP who was active in her church and a pillar of the community. Only later did I discover she liked to post nude photos of herself and likely euthanized her very father.

So titles, pedigrees, dinner party conversation, and the like don't reveal what is in someone's character.

It's what they do and say that defines them.

the life of an average md's family (not a plastic surgeon) is very busy. 12 hour shifts, in his case on call in the er, head ache after headache, lack of sleep etc. He has a young family. More full of little league etc. than dinner parties and the high life. He is very smart and is reporting what he knows in his realm of medicine in his spot on the map.

One of the reasons the health care workers in Africa are contracting it is because they are essentially bathing in fluids of the infected. The risk is reduced here for that reason alone.

As far a me posting here, there is noting special about being an estranged wife of an er doc! Why would I not post on glp?

Our neighborhood doctors are not going to suddenly throw all they know about Ebola out the window until they hear from the CDC or WHO that they need to change! The ER there at Baylor did not change the way they screen patients until after the level one alert was issued from WHO. There is a chain of command here. This is their job along with seeing tons of patients with all the other infectious diseases they see on a daily basis.

I am well aware of the life pace of MDs.

I would humbly point you to the testimony of Ken Isaacs of Samaritan's Purse:

Thread: HEAD OF SAMARITAN'S PURSE: CURRENT NUMBERS ONLY REFLECT 25% OF TRUE EBOLA CASES!

His testimony will disabuse you of the belief this Ebola is just like all the last 20 breakouts.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 61399855

Yes, I did listen to his testimony. My reason for post in here is to point out that these doctors are the foot soldiers regarding chain of command. They are reporting what they know and have studied. They are not intentionally misleading. I asked my husband for weeks if they were taking the threat of Ebola seriously in the ER. And no they were not until WHO issued the Level One alert.

Thanks for not being rude. I don't know much about medicine, but I can at least verify what is going on at baylor.

WHO Sez: "they're seeing evidence that the death toll and number of infections is much larger than these official counts."

I would suggest you print out this posting or forward electronically to this Baylor team that did the interview.

Tamping down public suspicions can be as morally dangerous as inflaming them; aligning one's self to a trans-national organization like WHO or the CDC means you inherit their weaknesses, their bureaucracy, and little of their strengths.

Your doctor friends need to understand the CDC is a sharp stick to lean upon. The CDC is known as a dumping ground. PhDs and MDs who merit working with patients stay in traditional practice and don't flee to a sinecure in the CDC.

Baylor's in Houston. They'll bring it here from their African branch in Zambia.

Who would've thought just less than 2 months later, the first case in America OCCURRED IN DALLAS, TX!
