Wow! Had to spend a long time reading to catch up! Have about needed therapy - have missed coming here for a while. Thanks Queen Flora for your kind message! I have been here most days, but have posted little. Just an extended member of the family!!!  I'll have a go at explaining here, although explaining isn't my good point lol. When we are seeing these earthquake swarms in a particular area, it usually indicates that the Lava flow is blocked somewhat, so we get a quake and another quake and another quake and then usually a larger quake which indicates that the magma has managed to break through. If the quakes appear close together, then the magma pressure has built up to a level where it has managed to " free" itself so to speak, and is on the move. This is why Guga, Luis and cow have concerns when the quakes are large and occur near the other big players on the Iceland circuit ( Tugna, Katla, askja etc) because if the Magma is building up there and then finally breaking through, there is the increased possibly of the big BOOM happening. This is also why the scientists cannot predict what will happen in the future. Iceland, as a whole, is alive and breathing at the moment, we just have to sit and wait until the magma finds the next weakest point in which to escape. Thank you bird!!! This is a normal situation before an eruption. We don't know when...but there's a good chance that we'll have a M5 sequence after this episode...and then...Booom. Plus one more just inside the rim (and several more across the caldera on the rim? What are those? The strange ice calderas? Barda has lot's of Cauldrons...
