Another big one
Do not fear the great changes we face at this time. Simply acknowledge this as a grand process, as we move from the old to the new. Are you waiting for something? or are you setting yourself free?
And as the old world falls, a new world may be born. And as we learn new things about our universe, may we be mature enough to take our place amongst the stars.

Good afternoon and Good Evening all! Happy Halloween to all in the States and elsewhere!

Concerning the So2 and its effect on humans, animals and our cllimate is where I can assist the most and here is my 3 cents.

The fissure has been emitting an average of 35 thousand tons a day into the atomosphere for the past 62 days. As of the past few weeks that number has more than likely doubled.

The weather IS AND WILL be affected by what has been emitted based upon the following study which I posted a few weeks back and will post again. As for the posts concerning global warming, the topic is politically charged and therefore completely irrelevent to the topic at hand.

Once again, here is the study and I suggest everyone become very familiar with what happened with the Laki event as more than 20% of all So2 emissons occurred within the first 10 days of the laki event. This means that the So2 output was basically frontloaded during the Laki event.

While we did have a great deal of So2 being disbursed during the first few weeks of the Barda fissure event, the So2 has been fairly consistent and is now increasing. Also, if we have a caldera explosion, the amount of toxins etc. emitted into the upper troposphere and stratosphere will be mindboggling.

Please note in the report below that the BOUNDARY LAYER is an area that serves as an atmospheric conveyor belt that disperses elements throughout the respective hemispheres. Here is the info from the study as previously mentioned: I will see you all on the night shift this evening!

The 136 page report from which the excerpt below is taken, is the most comprehensive study that we have of an Icelandic Fissure eruption event. I hope this helps as many as possible in understanding both the enormity and complexity of the current event that we all continue to monitor.

LARGE MAGNITUDE FISSURE ERUPTIONS IN ICELAND:
SOURCE CHARACTERISATION

Report on the source characteristics of a Laki type eruption for scenario modeling and findings of an expert consultation and elicitation.
British Geological Survey Open FileReport

Loughlin, S.C., Aspinall,W.P., Vye Brown, C., Baxter, P.J.,Braban, C.F.,Hort, M.,Schmidt, A., Thordarson, T., Witham, C.

We have found that the Laki eruption had the potential to dramatically impact global CN and CCN concentrations with an increase in total particle concentration in the upper troposphere over large parts of the Northern Hemisphere by a factor of 16 during the first three months of the eruption.

Our conclusions have also shown that the effects are strongly dependent on the season with a summertime eruption having the biggest impact on the upper Tropospheric CCN concentrations. Finally, we have found that since S02 rises into the Troposphere, which eventually forms into an H2SO4 vapor as the particles will grow by coagulation and condensation. The final conclusion is that the particle concentrations in the boundary layers increased by 2 to 5 times as far away as the Middle East, Asia and North America.

Ok, Laki caused some serious climate changes when it erupted in 1783. From what I've read Laki was "front loaded" on SO2. So if it was front loaded on "SO2" and this one wasn't nearly as front loaded, and the fact it's being spread out over a longer period of time, does that mean that it'll be worse or not as bad as Laki?

That is of course if this thing doesn't go KABLOOEY with a massive explosion type eruption which contains a lot of SO2.

Hello my friend, I always like reading your thoughtful comments. You ask a great question using good critical thinking skills. The answer is dependent on the weather patterns and of course the amount of time that this event continues. I know I am not being very specific, though there are so many variables involved though I can state emphatically that yes, the So2 will effect weather patterns this winter and beyond. As to comparing it to Laki, we are nowhere near the amount of So2 that Laki emitted, though all the experts are stating that this may go on for months or years. The old cliche that time will tell is quite applicable here.

Tonight I was going to start talking about BVB's archive and select something from each part of the archive each night and discuss it. Tonight I wanted to use the NASA So2 chart that BVB has in the archive. If you click on the link below and set the date at the bottom of the page for yesterday and the past several days, you will see that Norway, Russia, Canada and many other nations have very high levels of So2. Here is the link my friend:

If you check and see say like September 2014 (pick any day) then switch to 2013, and then 2012 you can see the huge difference in the amount of SO2 in the air. It's quite amazing. October was giving me a little bit of an issue so I went back a month. Then I decided, let's see what August looks like, yet again big difference over the past two years.

Then I decided to try July and compare the three years. Talk abut a wow factor for 2014.

Your post mentions about large SO2 in the summer having the biggest effect. July, August, September are all Summer months and a drastic increase in the 3 months over prior years makes it a little disconcerting. It may not be as bad as Laki but it'll be interesting for sure to see how this plays out.

i have been following this and the fb page. My understanding is that slowly but surely will give way, I think the farmers almanac is not going to very useful this winter if this keeps up. I am uneasy too. I feel in my bones that all kinds of things are around the corner but most of us will be a little roughed up but fine in the end. It actually gives me hope that the planet shifts and changes and that it is not just a big lonely dead rock in space. thankyou for everyone's hard work.

USGS has the quake at 11.32 p.m as a M5.1, the one at 23.43 P.M isn't showing anywhere yet, and i don't even want to guess as to the one that just occured at 23.50 P.M!! If this is, indeed, not a mistake, we've had 3 M5 + quakes in the space of 20 mins!!
