Can tree hugging boost your health?
Japanese researchers have shown that "forest bathing," taking long walks, and living in a forested environment, long regarded in Asia as a health tonic, actually helps stimulate the immune system and can lead to greater mental and physical health.

Noted Native American healer and author Sun Bear said, “trees are conductors of energy between the heavens and the earth. When you hold and hug a tree, you feel the energy and it can be like a blood transfusion.”

According to these traditional medicines, just as trees take our carbon dioxide and make oxygen, trees absorb our stress and negativity and returns it to the earth to be recycled, leaving us with an openness and calm.

Re: Can tree hugging boost your health?
Tree hugging hippies may have been onto Something

Trees are an amazing spiritual symbol and they represent grounded connected life very well.
If it is not well grounded a strong wind can topple it or even blow it away but if well grounded a tree can and must withstand storms and the tumult of the outside world. It must also be flexible so as not to break in the wind, a balance of strong grounding and flexibility.

Humans too must be well grounded in themselves, the Earth and in Spirit if they are to withstand the trials of life. If we are not well grounded we tend to be swept up in the circumstances and emotional drama of our lives and this is particularly true in these intense times. However if we are well grounded, we find our stability within and we are not swept away even in the most difficult of times.

Re: Can tree hugging boost your health?
you dont need to hug it, just put your hand on it

really you dont need to touch it even, just use your mind, but if you're new to this kinda stuff then ofc it helps to actually touch it.

the more you can empty your mind and put your full attention on the tree, the better

For the record... Every time I got in trouble while camping as a kid (8-12 yrs old), my parents (my dad) would tell me to go hug a tree. I thought it was embarrassing!

I'm 26 now (male) and can feel the beauty in this!

It's powerful!

Just try it!

I really do dare ALL of you reading this to go outside and hug a tree for at least 2 minutes.

Re: Can tree hugging boost your health?
Interesting.

I remember as a kid skateboarding down our street I started to go too fast and couldn't stop or jump off. I fell backwards and my head made first contact with the kerb. Seriously my head felt like it was swaying in and out of itself. I tried to run out of sheer panic but because of the swaying I kept falling over.

Then I had a thought that I had to make it over to a tree, which I did, I hugged it and put my head against it and the swaying quickly stopped and my 'head' centered again. Weird but that's my tree hugging story :)

Many Tai Chi practitioners have been doing this for thousands of years. It's not news. Well.. it may be news to the knuckledragging swine who tend to comment on boards like this, but they're largely beyond hope as it is already.
