Rumors abound of health benefits from ozonated air but I was taught it was bad for you. What gives, any one have any ideas?

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
Ya don't breath it, it's nasty stuff and hurts your mucus membranes. It's benefits are that it kills microbes, but it's bad for you for the same reason it kills them... Oxygen doesn't like being in threes so ozone (O3) readily breaks apart by attaching it's molecules to other things. I've used it to kill a stench in a boat before and it works but breathing it in causes a blood like smell in your nose and kind of hurts your lungs.

Don't go near it if you can

Good in large quantities in the upper atmoshere, not so good at ground level except as a disinfectant in minute amounts.

Sure smells good after a lightning strike though. cool2

lol ozone is the result of the suns radiation disassociating oxygen (o2). so ozone is the result after the protection the oxygen gives against the suns radiation is spent.

ozone itself is not the protection.

which is why an ozone layer depleting is not such a worry some thing.

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
the problem is how the ozone is produced...machines can create other compounds other than ozone

then the ammount and the way is amministred

it irritaed membranes...but this result into the production of anti=inflamatory compounds. So in small quantities it works great.

Breathing a lot of it can harm lungs

skin contac doesnt vreate problems

you can breath it by letting the ozone pass trough oil.

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
So is it more of an irritant or will it cause damage? I spent more Han a few days in it about a year ago unaware of anything other than smell. Was told not to worry since hot tubs use it.
When you talk about inhaling it through oil, what kind and what does the oil do? Do I need a huge bong for this?
Or is it just bad? Thought o2 was good? Still confused. But thanks so far

Ozone (O3) produces significant effects on sleep, characterized specially by a decrease in paradoxical sleep (PS) and increase in slow-wave sleep (SWS), which in turn represent a sleep-wake cycle disruption.
Slow-wave sleep increased by 75% (p<or=0.0013) while wakefulness was decreased in 35%.
[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Slow-wave sleep (SWS), often referred to as deep sleep, consists of stages three and four of non-rapid eye movement sleep.
This period of sleep is called slow wave sleep because the EEG activity is synchronized, producing slow waves with a frequency of less than 1 Hz and a relatively high amplitude.
The principle characteristics during slow wave sleep that contrast REM sleep are moderate muscle tonus, slow or absent eye movement, and lack of genital activity.
Slow-wave sleep is considered important to consolidate new memories.
The primary function of slow-wave sleep may be to allow the brain to recover from its daily activities
.
Another function slow-wave sleep affects is the secretion of growth hormone, which is always greatest during this stage.

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
Ozone benefiting macular degeneration

During the last 8 years, in Siena (Italy), we have treated hundreds of patients achieving a significant improvement in about 70 % of the cases. Usually 15 treatments (twice weekly) followed by a maintenance therapy can allow sufficient vision acuity for many years. Otherwise the disease can progress to the exudative form that becomes un-tractable. epithelium as consequence of several derangements, one of which is ischemia and a chronic hypoxia of precious retinal cells. The main advantage is due to an increased delivery of oxygen to the retina, which is the tissue with the highest consumption of oxygen.
A retrospective study was performed in 22 patients assisted at the Ophthalmologic Service of the Medical Surgical Research Center (CIMEQ). The results demonstrated an improvement (with an average of 2 tenths-visions) of their visual acuity in 80 % of the patients treated with ozone. Ozone therapy could be a good therapeutic choice for patients suffering of SMD of dry type.

Ozone Therapy in the Ophthalmology

Here you can find the list of eye diseases and recommended methods of local ozone therapy. The systemic methods of ozone therapy (minor and major AHT with ozone, ozonated saline drips) are indicated in case of generalized process for disinfection, desintoxication, anti-ischemic defense, normalization of the oxido-reduction system, immunomodulation.

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
In September 1896, the electrical genius Nikola Tesla patented his first ozone generator, and in 1900 he formed the Tesla Ozone Co. Tesla sold ozone machines and ozonated olive oil to doctors for medical use.
In the 1920s, Nikola Tesla allowed licensed production of an ozone air purifier in Canada, based on his cold plasma design.

In 1926, Dr. Otto Warburg of the Kaiser Institute in Berlin announced that he had found that the cause of cancer is a lack of oxygen at the cellular level. For his discovery, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1931 and again in 1944, the only person ever to receive two Nobel Prizes for medicine. He was also nominated for a third.

In 1929, a book called "Ozone and Its Therapeutic Action" was published in the US listing 114 diseases and how to treat them with ozone. Its 40 authors were the heads of all the leading American hospitals.

In 1933, the American Medical Association, headed up by Morris Fishbein, set out to eliminate all medical treatments that were competitive to drug therapy. The suppression of ozone therapy in the US began then, and continues to this day, except in ten US states, where doctors are protected by state laws.

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
In 1957, Dr. J. Hansler patented an ozone generator which has formed the basis of the expansion in German ozone therapy over the last 40 years. Today, over 8000 German doctors use ozone therapy daily.

In 1961, the Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology stated: "During the 80 year history of the large scale usage of ozone, there has never been a human death attributed to it".

In 1972, The International Association for Oxygen Therapy was founded by Dr. George Freibott as the successor to the Eastern Association for Oxygen Therapy of 1913.

In 1979, Dr. George Freibott successfully treated a Haitian AIDS patient suffering Kaposi's sarcoma with ozone.

In 1980, Dr. Horst Kief also reported success with ozone therapy for AIDS patients.

In 1980, F. Sweet, et al, publish "Ozone Selectively Inhibits Human Cancer Cell Growth" in the peer-reviewed journal, Science, Vol. 209.

In 1990, the Cubans reported success in treating glaucoma, conjunctivitis and retinitis pigmentosa with ozone.

Re: Is Ozone good or bad?
Ozone therapy acts as a form of oxygen therapy that stimulates mitochondria and gives them bath of fresh air. Diseases treated using ozone therapy is infected wounds, circulatory disorders, geriatric conditions, macular degeneration, viral diseases, rheumatism/arthritis, cancer, skin healing and AIDS.

Ozone is a molecule consisting of three atoms of oxygen. It has a half-life of 40 min at 20°C and about 140 min at 0°C. Ozone is
produced by lightening in nature.

It should be introduced in large quantities into the body so that the singlet oxygen molecule that is unattached and freely circulating will attack all immature, sick and deformed cells, which are foreign to the body, like viruses, bacteria, fungi etc. Thus, it increases the stability of normal good healthy cells. It is the treatment of choice for a wide variety of diseases and has proven to be the safest medical therapy. Ozone also stimulates production of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase, which are the enzymes in our cell walls that protect our cells from free radical damage.

Ozone administered at a concentration of 30 to 55 μg/cc causes the greatest increase in the production of interferon and greatest output of tumor necrosis factor and interleukin-2. The production of interleukin-2 launches an entire cascade of subsequent immunological responses.
