MASSIVE internet outage. Charter down nationwide

I'm a WI charter customer, was able to fix my connection by altering my DNS servers but service speed has been crap all day.

I've been monitoring the Charter FB page and someone just posted this:

"Guys its not just charter, theres a couple other internet companys haveing the same problem and the guy was nice enough to tell me whats going on he did tell me that AT&T and a few others are haveing the same issues and that the problem is to be expected to be fixed tommorow there are doing there job seeing as tho couple of other customers are getting theres back its all about the DNS which is used to help us get the sites we want and me being part of there service not internet wise but cable wise i trust them enough to be my internet too, so please stay calm and patience and it will be back up soon"

It looks to be a DOSS attack on their DNS servers.

Here's how you can change your DNS to get back up and running right.

Its Charters DNS servers that are down. Im posting this while on charter lol. I just plugged in Googles DNS servers and it working like a champ.. Would be nice if Charter would fucking tell people whats going on though... In case you have charter and need, heres how you change your DNS server.



1.Open Control Panel
2. (Assuming you're on Windows 7) Open Network and Sharing Center.
3. Click Change Adapter Settings (On the left side)
4. Right-click your Network Connection and Click Properties
5. Click Internet Protocol Version 4 (Should be highlighted blue)
6. Click Properties (Below that, to the right)
7. Click the bubble besude "Use the following DNS Servers"
8. In the first box put 8.8.8.8
In the Second box put 8.8.4.4
And there ya go. Just remember to change it back to automatic tomorrow.

I thought the black list executions were about to begin. Thank god it was just a DNS issue.

I got knocked offline a few times today. MI roadrunner

I'm still shocked my At@t only dropped 1 time tonight for 20 mins or so with a few hiccups of 5 mins each. I flushed my DNS and that helped.. [link to www.wikihow.com]

CBN and AT&T having problems all day that i directly know of.

I have windstream and my services are on and off all day, every day. After years of complaining and no improvement, I just deal with it.

When my charter went out not all of it did, I have a nettalk on the line and it worked fine, but my smart phone, which is not, did not, it is home phone and is wireless it works without electricity as long as it is charged, it went out, too! Well that is one idea that doesn't workout all the time. But it is good service. Can not understand why it went out. It came back when the internet did. Something is going on for sure!!!

I got rid of Charter and their awful service and even worse customer service over a year and a half ago. Best thing I ever did and don't miss them at all.

I have AT&T DSL and it is fast, never down and never lags.

Charter sucks, and I feel for everyone who has been without today.

Its a dry run.......... preparing for the real deal

This has got ta be the worst day for Internet and then as the damn thing comes back for me...not even 30 mins later the frig power company goes down.

Just got the power back after 3 hours down and my internet went down around 2pm yesterday.

Thank god my fantasy football drafts aren't until NEXT weekend!

Good ol' Charter - not the first time a large-scale outage has happened, and won't be the last. All's clear now in South-Central Wisconsin.

That's why I am so happy that I will be forced into Charter when the TW-Comcast merger goes through.
