ifSHTF User ID: 14320441 United States 08/29/2014 09:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | And as for the FLIR... did you also not insure that? Its like $35 tops to ship that $1000 FLIR with full insurance. That is your only option - either that, or buy a plane ticket and hand deliver the item. I've had about $5,000 worth of mail theft this year. I had 2 high dollar scopes and a PVS-14 stolen right off my porch (or never delivered). I've had 2 packages disappear off the face of the planet and I had to file claims through the shipping insurance. I also even had a postal employee falsify a signature and leave packages on my doorstep - I live in an urban area. Most of my stuff gets to me, and to the destination without issue. Insurance is a waste 95% of the time. For the other 5%, it pays for itself. Last Edited by ifSHTF on 08/29/2014 09:13 AM |

My #1 suspect would be the person at the counter. Of course, you can't prove it, but I would never ever put cash in the mail. Buy a cashier's check or a money order next time...or send a personal check. I don't trust the post office with mail yet alone cash. About 20 years ago...before direct deposit, I mailed my bi-monthly employee check (about $2,000), to my credit union, which is about 4 miles away. I assumed it arrived, and started writing checks. Found out my company check never arrived. My employer replaced the check without a problem, but that's the last time I trusted the post office. To this day I never found out where that check went! If you did, and didn't insure it, you deserve to lose it. Heck, I don't even think they would insure that, because they'd insist you send a Money Order, instead. Person at counter likely taking your stuff. There is no reason they would tell you not to get insurance unless they didn't want an investigation. They don't give a crap what difficulty you have getting reimbursed.. They are probably told to recommend insurance since it is a revenue generating part of their business. You told them what was in the package and they saw the opportunity to fuck you over. Twice. Small town? This person new? |

Insurance is a waste 95% of the time. For the other 5%, it pays for itself. all this year, right? something is going on at usps Yes, this year. USPS in an effort to cut costs, has been forced to get rid of a lot of staff, and had to take on lots of TE (temporary employees). They are contract, make a fraction of the wage, have terrible benefits, and that is who falsified a signature on one of my packages. It was faster for him to fake the signature than to take the package back to the truck, because he only had so much time to finish his route. You need to insure everything, and require signature confirmation, even if it comes with free signature service for insurance over $250. It generally costs me about $45-50 to ship a PVS-14 fully insured. I have an ATN OTS-X I'm debating on selling, and I can just imagine how much shipping that is going to cost. Yikes! |

USPS is crap now, they've fired all the good career employees and replaced them with minimum wage temps that rotate out every 6 months. You can thank congress. |
