I typed an email and sent it and then the next ad I saw on a different site related to keywords that I typed in the email
Just now I wrote an email to a friend, with keywords of movie, screen, theater used several times throughout the email.

It was in a fastmail account, not gmail, hotmail or yahoo.

The next site I visited had a banner ad: Get a Degree in Digital Cinematography and Film.

Last night I cleared all my cookies and browsing history. (edit: I didn't clear all my cookies, I have ccleaner and use the "cookies to keep" feature and IMDB might be in there.)

I rarely go to film related sites, only IMDB and not very often and have cleared my browsing history since I've been there, it wasn't recently.

So did the keywords in the email I typed somehow affect the ad I saw? I mean I know that site shows me "relevant" ads based on my cookies and browsing history, I see it all the time. Just not movie, film, cinema related, ever before.

Writing on a laptop, Windows 7. No microphone or camera that I know of.

It could just be a coincidence. The site where I got the ad was astro.com. I've never seen that ad before.

You have touched on the tip of the iceberg ... we have barely scratched that surface with the Snowden NSA revelations ... NSA is only a fraction of the 'projects'.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION. I HAVE WATCHED THIS THREE TIMES AND STILL GET CHILLS.

Yep, and when you go shopping you get ads on your computer for things you buy. How they track you down to your home PC from a trip at Lowe's or Home Depot, not sure, but it happens. There is no such thing as privacy anymore.

I will watch that. I did see "Terms and Conditions" (is that what it was called?) with investigators showing the phone-book-sized files with everything they posted that facebook had on them. I hardly was ever on facebook, barely dabbled in it, was going to pull it and after I saw that I did delete the account.

A long time ago someone made the point, I think it had been made in the book The Handmaid's Tale? About how if we have a cashless, surveillance society, they'll always know where you are and if they want to take you out, they can just pull your credit, oh, whoops sorry, glitch in your account, we'll get it fixed soon, but in the meantime you can't buy gas, travel, you're stuck where you are, right where we want you.

It doesn't have to be the government coming after you. You could be a corporate whistleblower, piss off Coca Cola or something by revealing some malfeasance, they could have insiders at Visa Mastercard, it could get to the point where they don't have to use their power to paralyze and starve you, they could just subtly threaten it to keep you in line.

Corporate and government are becoming one entity, look at the Monsanto people in key positions, all the pharmaceutical infiltration of agencies, with these surveillance powers they have it all sewed up, they know it but the average Joe has twenty years of catching up to do.

I've been looking up alcohol content in different drinks, an add was on the side on FB about alcohol counciling, then things I've searched on ebay or amazon will actually show up in my feed on FB seriously about to delete it.

I was not logged into any of those, don't use facebook or twitter, I have to use a google account for work but I log out immediately as soon as I'm done.

Guilty of staying logged into hotmail a lot. But I wasn't typing the email on that account.

That happens everywhere though, and yeah I'm logged into amazon all the time I guess. the stuff you search for on Amazon shows up in ads everywhere across the web. I kind of get how that works.

Facebook is the worst though. They don't even pretend to give a shit about ethics or privacy. They advocate no privacy.

I especially don't like that, once I went shopping with a friend, he had a smart phone, I don't (just a cheap cell phone). He made a purchase, I made no purchase. I got ads on my computer at home for stuff he bought at the store when we were together. That was eerie, I didn't like that.

That's weird! The only thing that I can think of is that they have a relationship with some site that you are a member of? Too strange.

I am actually thinking it is too late to undo this for most of us, unless we give up all electronic devices, credit, etc. Basically operating in cash, using phone books, off the grid type behavior. It will take a lot to undo this, if it is possible. It is very scary when you really ponder it because they do have you where they want you. And once they get rid of cash...omg....then way worse.

Barely even see pay phones anywhere. Ya know?

Well here's a no-sh*t story.

Had a great thread going on GLP. Got pinned and everything. Over 5,000 views.

Then I started responding to the many replies, typed in a few key words that TPTB apparently don't like - next thing I knew my computer went dead along with my telephone (on the same broadband).

My posts never got published on my own thread.

The outage lasted 20 minutes.

I can't begin to tell you that if anybody doesn't believe the NSA and other alphabet agencies are on to you and everything you do, you are sadly mistaken.

Just sayin'....from experience.

The saddest thing is that people don't even see the threat. It doesn't bother them that some corporation and the government has a dossier on them that includes the names and addresses of every person they know. Really, that information didn't used to be so easy to get. Now, people just hand it over.

The problem is that if you ever did need to go somewhere and hide, say from creditors, or tax collectors, or someone you pissed off one way or the other, they'll know exactly where to look for you because they have all your contacts in your phone, and all your "freinds" on facebook and in your email accounts, etc.

All the kids are required to read The Diary of Anne Frank, but no one ever thinks, what if that happened today, they would know where to look for her family, who to ask, nothing's hidden any more, there won't be any attics to hide in.

Re: I typed an email and sent it and then the next ad I saw on a different site related to keywords that I typed in the email
Shit it just did the same thing again, showed me an ad based on keywords I typed in an email today. I was writing about concrete work, cement, concrete forms, and I get an ad for concrete contractors.

The only place that would have come up was in the email that I typed - not on google, not logged into google, don't use google search engine. Was using a different, offshore, paid email service.

So does google have a keylogger on me or what?

It's my laptop, Windows 7, not an android system, not Chrome, I don't have Chrome. I'm using Pale Moon.

When I mouse over the ad it's "googleadservices.com" and then a long string of a link.

Seriously how do they know what I typed in an email???? At fastmail.fm.
