Thought GLP'ers might be interested...

My sister works for a large Coal mine driving haul truck. She told me about a month and a half ago that at one of their daily meetings, their foreman told the group that "he probably shouldn't be saying anything because he could get in trouble...but that the company is making major preparations for the possibility of a blackout caused by a solar flare".

Yesterday she called me and said that she thought it was really strange that the last 2 nights, they closed the whole mine down for 7/8 hrs and sent everyone home early to run drills for the possibility of a power outage due to a solar flare. The entire mine & power was shut down. She thought it was odd because she knows how much money they lose when production stops even for minutes.

I don't know...maybe big companies have been doing this all along?

Anyways, just an FYI...

This is a cover up, they are not afraid of a blackout caused by a solar flare, but by a blackout caused by an EMP. Of course they will never even mention EMP, but that's the real threat sold to sheeple as a solar flare blackout threat!

A nuclear weapon would be detonated in orbit “in order to destroy much of the electric grid from above the US with a single explosion,” he told lawmakers last week. “Two thirds of the US population would likely perish from starvation, disease, and societal breakdown. Other experts estimate the likely loss to be closer to 90 percent.”

Perhaps a terrorist knockout of power.. solar flare might just be the so called natural reason to do testing .. you know either way any company that is preparing drills without a here we are doing a emergency drill is interesting.

maybe explains the isp outages and the like.. prepping what to do..

if there is a flare coming they know about it already.. and if it is a terrorist FF event they know about that too..

Such a surprise when it happens.. to the sheep maybe either way if this is true it holds wind to the threads about the power grid disruptions coming.

Disaster drills are all the rage these days.

And for everyone jumping on the "let's shill the OP" horse, may I remind you that the type of mine was not described. We have no idea whether it is an open pit, or not.

If not, it's a pretty good idea to shut down and run your emergency power supplies, dontcha think? Collapses and cave ins and all that.

Everything might be just fine, tucked away inside a coal mine. Something to remember ;)

I will for sure. She's coming here today for a visit for her days off...so I'll drill her for details.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 61979123

But I don't get what her company is trying to prove with a drill like this. I mean, if it happens they can't run trucks, they don't have a back up power source to run their operations.

They'd need to get mules and horses, build a stable, set up a steam powered system then try their drill.

Hell, just thinking they can send folks home in an EMP situation is a fail because it assumes folks can drive their cars. What is the company going to do if folks are stranded or if even fires break out because of massive shorts and transformer explosions?

Not much prepping for an EMP if you ask me.
OP tell us the name of the company please. Anglo American is here in my town and so is Teck. I want to say we are prepared. From Canada.

I said the same thing when she told me about what the foreman said. I'm like...unless they turn the mine into a giant faraday cage, there's not much they can do in the event of an EMP. But it wouldn't surprise me if a solar flare was blamed for a man-made blackout. To be honest I sort of chalked up what she said a month ago to maybe the foreman being a paranoid "sun-tard", lol. So I was surprised by what she told me yesterday about the shut-downs. I'll ask her tonight what exactly they told her about the exercises the last 2 days...

Re: World's 2nd largest coal exporter prepping for solar flares
Big companies run table top excersises all the time for big disasters, yet no operations need to be shutdown. And if any equipment needed some sort of surge protection devices then the electricians would briefly shutdown a particular panel and that's it and no operations impacted for any length of time. So to hear that they basically wanted the workplace empty and no operations means that something was installed that would upset workers and lead to bad publicity. They wanted no witnesses. Look for any strange new strange boxes or cameras or antennas. Might even be disguised as fake birds or fake trees.
I toured that Estevan Saskatchewan coal mine (Sherrit) not too long ago. What a bleak depressing place. I turned down a lucrative job as it was so depressing.
In a big picture, coal mines are important for any long term war.
Perhaps some secret security measures were put into place at that mine.
The only valuable equipment is the big diesel trucks. I bet those were wired with mics and cameras.
