We've gone in the opposite direction, which is just as bad. A violent, sadistic offender in the US can have extensive trial(s), endless legal delays, be found guilty, endless appeals, and in the case of the worse offenders (murderers, serial killers,etc) can be sentenced to death yet will still often live for decades before said sentence is carried out. Justice delayed is justice denied. The defendants in the infamously cruel and sadistic Wichita Massacre are still appealing well after a decade, and there's zero question regarding their guilt.

Right.

We all know that our wonderful, Slow, Expensive, Selective justice system NEVER makes a mistake.

mob rule wouldn't happen if The System in place actually worked.

Sure, there are mistakes and injustices at either end of the spectrum. Just don't try and use one case of potential injustice in order to justify another case of potential injustice.

What's important is continuing the critical processes of investigation.

If you depend on the government for ANYTHING in Guatemala you're going to die of old age before you get it so justice is a DIY proposition.

When overwhelming evidence supports the fact The System is broken, and those with vested interests (usually financial) in said system, there's a huge problem. All the platitudes in the world won't alter this problem, and most people can see through the BS.

Whether the three that were burned were guilty or innocent, their swift and painful deaths will inspire a multitude of second thoughts in the minds of those who might be similarly inclined. Whether right or wrong, there comes a point when people lose faith in the system and the inevitable result is instant vigilante justice.

Keyword being justice.

Because if it truly isn't justice when you think it is, that is a judgement call fuck up of epic proportions.

Getting mad at a "generality" (something that has no root in reality) and taking that anger out on a real life individual "suspected" of wrong doing is a misapplication of logic and an absolute absence of reason.

THIS is the response that society needs to have to rapists.
