A very simple social experiment could put this to bed. Two classes; One Hispanic and Black, one Caucasian and Asian. Exact same Teachers, Curriculum, School, everything exactly the same. You can even stack the deck and teach in Spanish or Ebonics or both for all I care.
Where would you place your bet? You had to bet everything you own; where would you place your "Future" ???????????

The school failed to pass or is it really that the students just aren't smart enough to pass? From what I can tell it's the same test for all races so this is not a racial issue at all.

This is an issue with certain groups just not applying themselves and passing the tests. You can't really blame the schools or the teachers for students that choose not to apply themselves.

Common commie core certainly didn't help.

Then blacks can work that out on their own. They can stop getting knocked up just to get welfare. Blacks can OWN their own faults and mistakes - not pass them off to everyone else

Many of these black and hispanic kids have great study habits, go for extra help, etc. They just lack the ability.

The white/asian class would have a higher score on the pretest than the black/hispanic class on the same test after studying the course.

I think the teachers are prolly racists.

In addition, I work for a company that has its roots in Europe and our CEO, and CFO and many in the chain of command are from there. Could it be because they invest their hard earned cash into the business and want to see it succeed? - or - is it some deep dark secret I should be concerned about? I have only worked for them for 25 years and they have a disproportionate representation in the company. Oh and by the way they are not Jews.

This result proves that despite various liberal attempts, NY has a strong tradition of quality solid education and their tests are meaningful.

I'd advise black people to come here (wish they wouldn't, but it would be in their best interest) because even if they fail the tests, they'll get as good an education as anywhere and learn as much as their ability will allow.

(same can't be said of the very gifted, because gifted programs have no funding here.)

They'll get as good as an education as anywhere, based upon ability? A true statement I'm sure, but the word ability should be replaced with "efforts", as an example.

We can argue all day about genetics, IQ scores, socio-economics, politics, etc..., but if we do not acknowledge the facts surrounding individual efforts of the students then we will never get anywhere.

Let's be honest, even Chris Rock has made jokes about how becoming educated is seen as "a bad thing" in many Af-American communities ("Oh, you got a master's degree? So what, you my master now, bitch?). As such, if many of the AA/Hispanic students refuse to put forth the effort needed to be successful in school... well... they will get out of the educational system what they put into it, and if they put little effort into becoming educated, then they will become less educated than those who put forth maximum effort.

Blame anything you might like... I myself blame the individuals involved more than any other factor. No matter what side you take, no matter the argument presented or reasons stated, few of the replies to this post are willing to place blame upon the individuals responsible for becoming educated.

Teachers teach. Administrators supervise. Education boards oversee. Politicians finance, and at times, dictate the curriculum.

And students will learn... or they will not... it all depends on what their individual wills allow to make real.

I got this. Everybody get back. This is an easy fix:

1. Raise teacher pay 20%
2. Raise administrator pay 25%
3a. If a kid is white, reduce his score by 10%
3b. If a kid is hispanic, increase his score 10%
3c. If a kid is black, increase his score by 20%
4. Radomnly select 1 in every 20 white kids who passed and fail them.
5. Randomly select 15 in ever 20 minitory kids who failed and pass them.

There! Now the system is more fair and I'll bet you I can get a B.F.G. to finance the changes!
