You aren't insinuating that WHO (UN) would cover up the facts are you? They've always been so straight forward and honest before! They obviously would never lie to us, they only want what's best for us. (I couldn't even type that with a straight face.)

I try to read everything that I see regarding this Ebola outbreak. Seems to me that CDC and WHO are not on the same page.
Both are spinning info and facts.

I believe it is out of conrol and will result in
massive deaths in Western Africa then- move outward - across the oceans eventually.
We may deal with it more effectively in the US, but who wants to gamble on that?

So many reasons to close our borders and shut down air travel at this point in time. I know the stop of air travel is a drastic measure. It should be done.

As far as the US goes one concern I have is college students returning from Africa for the start of the new school year here. I hope the Universities put together some policies quickly to insure the safety of students. I personally don't believe anyone who has traveled to those countries should be allowed in the schools till they have completed at least the 21 days observation.

It was on the news yesterday that 5 students from the E-Bola stricken countries have started school at UWM Madison Wisconsin. That worries me cause my grandson is at that campus. The school plans to keep an eye on the African students simply by checking them for a fever! Are they NUTS!!!!? By the time they have a fever, the entire campus will have E-Bola!
Remember this stuff is airborne!

"The hopes that Nigeria’s Ebola outbreak could be quickly stamped out have evaporated. .."

Looks like Port Harcourt is fucked

"The WHO report is grim: “During his 6 day period of hospitalization, he was attended by the majority of the hospital’s health care staff,” it says, and members of his church community visited and performed a healing ritual that apparently involved laying on of hands. “On 21 August, he was taken to an ultrasound clinic, where 2 physicians performed an abdominal scan. He died the next day.”

It was not until 27 August that tests confirmed he was infected with Ebola."

Stop fearmongering! I suggest anyone who is worried to do some homework and get the facts. The fact is a 1/4 million people at least will die of influenza this cold season and the CDC and WHO and the media are not freaking out about that. This is being blown out of proportion to push the coming vaccine on the populace, nothing more. Just like Swine flu and Avian flu was fear mongered to get everyone to accept the flu shot. Don't be dummies and fall for this shit lest you wish to die from more of their poisonous shots.

You're the one who needs to do some research and get some facts, your opinion is positively ignorant. The flu has less than .1% mortality rate and kills the old immune compromised. Go back to school.

Yes, meanwhile those 5 students are allowed to run around the campus and the community touching, coughing, and sneezing on anything and everything they come into contact with.
FUCKEN AMAZING

They should have quarantined them. FUCK their feelings and political correctness. Better safe then sorry.

The logic here is astounding.
Anyone who has read GLP for any period of time has acquired good knowledge mixed in with the 99% noise.

Did he just say that the dead guy in the wheelchair has been dead in the middle of the street for two days on one of the busiest streets in the city?

And it's been raining the whole time???

Holy crap.

The dead body probably infected dozens of dogs and cats drinking puddle water, and possibly dozens if not hundreds of people walking past him.

Scary times.

I never attempt to fear-monger. There are real concerns here. I have looked at the facts and my concerns are based on facts. Even using the WHO numbers that they admit are probably only 1/4 of what the true numbers are anyone can see that the outbreak has gotten worse not better. They do not have a handle on it and won't for at least some time to come. You say the WHO is not freaking out, but they have and are concerned. You don't pull your workers from a lab out of an area that is testing possible cases unless you are truly concerned. The who and the CDC did not take enough action in the beginning and when it became obvious they didn't have the outbreak under control they tried to contradict the Doctors on the ground. Once it was obvious how far the outbreak was spreading they finally started changing there tone. Admitting that it was worse than they had previously stated. They have still tried to downplay what has been going on but have gradually started admitting to the scale of the event. They now admit this outbreak will continue for several months at least. Yes there are other things like the flu that have high numbers, but most people have developed some immunity to it. Therefore the majority of those who are infected will not die. In the case of Ebola there is very little immunity in the general population. If it continues to spread it will not be like getting the flu.

Whatever happens, happens. The west can't and won't be able to stop Ebola.

One of Africa's problems is the lack of infrastructure and the attitude of some people.

The only thing that can be done is containment. The west can't build them a healthcare infrastructure when it can barely afford them and manage the ones they have.

I watched a news report from Africa and people are scared, so scared they're asking for other countries to take them in.

If they west gives in to accepting Ebola refugees, it's gonna be a catastrophe.

Gotta watch out for an African diaspora.

I don't want anyone to be afraid. Fear only makes matters worse. I do hope people keep an eye on this. I am however curious is there a point in which you would become concerned? For me as long as the rate is not dropping I will remain concerned about where this might be heading. When we see a steady drop in the rate we will know that they are getting a handle on this. Till that time there is a risk and the longer it goes the risk to other countries increases.

The sad truth is those numbers given are really more about PR then the truth. No country or organization could possibly confirm all the boddies literally lying in ditches/streets/water sourcers or even begin to understan the true scope of animal spreading via the eating of decomposing people just lying around all over the continent of Africa. Its a public downplay to reduce fear equating to chaos.

A 2 year old boy picked it up from bushmeat.

That's 9 months, and we can fit a curve to 9 months of data:

2048 cases is 11 months in, but we've got there in 9 months!

1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096, 8192, 16384, 32768, 65536, 131072, 262144, 524288, 1048576, 2097152, 4194304, 8388608, 16777216, 33554432, 67108864, 134217728, 268435456, 536870912, 1073741824, 2147483648, 4294967296, 8589934592 : Everyone infected.

No disrespect to you or your son but.

This outbreak is characteristic of a global threat.

1. Is sustaining to a small geographic area for a long time.

2. Is showing very slow, nonlinear growth.

3. Reservoired in multiple species.

4. Past practices in containment are much less effective.

This bug is not burning out. In the past, minor measures against an outbreak were enough to insure quick burn out. This ain't the same. Slow confined exponential growth assures that once critmass is achieved you will see it spread like fire in a dry hay field.

The facts of the outbreak are alarming. It is perhaps the most alarming outbreak in the modern era. All of the people who know enough to be concerned, are concerned. Anyone who is not concerned is either not paying attention, or they do not have sufficient background to understand what is actually going on. (Or they refuse to believe any of the information and think it's just a big media stunt, in which case there is no point in even discussing anything with you)

The new numbers show a minimum increase of 400 over the prior total of around 1500.

That is a 25% increase in just a few days.

This is expanding at a parabolic rate and is extremely alarming.

You really need to research the difference between flu season and ebola. Ebola has a much higher kill rate than the flu- the flu infects many more people and they survive. Nobody is talking about lining up for a vaccine here- they are talking about the numbers rapidly increasing and this thing is out of control. Ebola is deadly and somehow it has mutated at an alarming rate.
