These are just the ones that tested positive and died in an Ebola clinic. Everyone who died at home and was buried in the backyard or dumped in the local river are not counted. |

According to a source familiar with the negotiations, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) agreed as of Tuesday morning to spend a total of $40 million to fight the epidemic in the 2015 spending bill. This would include $25 million for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and $15 million for the Biological Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to ramp up production of an experimental anti-Ebola drug, the source said. [link to thehill.com] I guess the Republicans think Ebola will only kill the poor and working class people ... SHEESH ... Chart of cases and deaths through Sept 6 2014 (Wikipedia) [link to upload.wikimedia.org] As of Sept 6 there were 4,293 suspected cases and 2,296 deaths had been reported. Additionally the World Health Organization has said that these numbers may be vastly underestimated. my comment: so far we are ON TRACK to hit the 10,000 cases by the end of September that I projected a while back and if we hit that number then my projection was for about 25,000 cases by the end of October. "IF" we do hit the 25,000 range of REPORTED cases by the end of October then we know ALL CONTAINMENT ATTEMPTS HAVE FAILED and this will run worldwide in short order, baring some new treatment or vaccine. Washington Politicians are still fiddling while Rome Burns ... and have yet to figure out that there is even a fire somewhere. Instead they just want to play Petty Politics. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 20589235 United States09/10/2014 05:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just wanted to add: If you adjust the deaths to compensate for the fact that Deaths occur 8 to 12 days AFTER an infection first becomes noticeable then the actual death rates for this infection is running in the 65% to 75% range. I posted the actual math in the big Ebola thread a couple of weeks back (with much a much lower number of infections an deaths) ... but back then it worked out to 68.5%, which rounded is 70% .... ergo: a range of 65% to 75% seems to be about right. If you click on the chart in my post above you will see that the number of deaths about equal the number of infections with about a 3 week lag, and that correlation has now remained stable for a few weeks. (of course 3 weeks later there are many more people infected) |
