We do." --Rorschach "Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war; That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial." - Shakespeare And Shepherds we shall be For thee, my Lord, for thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. Just hope and pray your battery doesn't explode when it freezes, it likely won't survive thawing out anyway. As everything thaws out, water will build up on all copper connections causing corrosion, providing the huge amount of water that will be in it doesn't just destroy it entirely. And a little water is worse than what's incoming? I spilled coffee on my shit many of times and it's fine. Like I said mine going in tonight! Yes, if you didn't know, water happens to be conductive and cause corrosion to internal components. Yes, water is vastly more destructive to electronics than electromagnetic interference. If it doesn't literally COOK YOU, it probably won't harm your small electronics. Things need to function as a LARGE antenna before these sort of effects allow enough current to be delivered through induction. Trust me, you are freaking out over literally nothing and causing others to likely destroy their electronics for no reason what so ever due to a lack of education regarding the topic. My freezer is frostless, there is no water in it. You need to research freezers. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60362238 Better to put electronics in your microwave. If a hard drive crashes, sometimes putting in the freezer for an hour will allow it to work just long enough to get some of your data back. Not always, but sometimes. I have seen this done. I'm tired of waiting, somebody push the damn button already! Keep your 72 virgins, give me one old biker chick. |

See the droplets of water on the outside of the glass? That's condensation. This is what will happen inside of your computer after you remove it from the freezer. |

Yes, this is quite true. I have done it myself. But once it reaches normal operating temp, the hard drive is toast. So putting a fully working hard drive in the freezer, in order to protect it from an EMP... is just dumb. |

Actually no, I'd rather you found a method for protecting your electronics that didn't involve purposely causing people to destroy theirs. Buy some static shielding bags. It's a hell of a lot more likely to protect electronics than a freezer which isn't even going to shield your stuff. Stick a wireless phone in the freezer and call your home phone. You'll see what I'm talking about. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 60095463 There's not even much threat at an X20 flare. It takes hitting X30+ before shit starts going south. And even then, small electronics will be unaffected, only large things will be impacted in any noticeable degree. I suggest you calm down and learn about the topic. You should learn how these CME's cause damage and then you will fully understand the concern. Trust me, it is not about impact, it is about how far the Earths magnetic field is pulled and then collapse. When the 2 CME's line up, it creates a long pull on the magnetic field and the plasma vacuum behind the two allows the magnetic field to collapse rapidly. I am not endorsing doom, but you should at least know what you are posting about. |
