Its sad to see how the office of the US president has degraded in my lifetime. Obama makes Carter and Ford look like master statesmen. What I find saddest is how the reaction of the American people has changed since the times of Nixon. Looking at it objectively, Nixon got a raw deal. Was he a rat? Yes. He will always be known as the guy that got impeached and forced out because he spied on his political opponents. Americans were outraged, dems and reps alike. I would argue that most of the presidents since him have done worse and not been held accountable. The last few presidents, and especially Obama have permitted large scale spying on the American public and nobody is outraged. I have never seen America so divided as since Obama took office. I have never seen such indecision and ineffectiveness, even though I often didn't agree with the actions of previous presidents, they had policy, they were decisive and acted with authority. America was feared and respected. Forty years ago Americans spoke out against their commander in chief and he was forced out. I wonder what has changed since then and how a president like Obama can serve 2 terms and why people haven't taken to the streets. And its no better in my own country.
