Vejonis said that there will be an increased number of airplanes policing in the Baltic airspace because "the situation has not changed to the best". "Thus, the size of contributions to the airspace policing operation will be doubled from next year," said the minister. Latvia's contributions to the Baltic airspace policing mission next year are planned at three million euros. At the same time, the minister underscored that this sum does not cover all costs. "The countries ensuring rotation cover most of the expenses. We have to infrastructure in Siauliai, Lithuania, and Amari, Estonia," said Vejonis. The Baltic states together will allocate nine million euros for the operation. "The number of flights when the airplanes have to take off to identify what is happening in the area has grown this year," the minister said. The Lithuanian Air Force Base in Siauliai, northern Lithuania, on September 1 hosted the official rotation ceremony of contingents in charge of NATO's Baltic air policing operation.
