Let's keep undermining TPTB's GMA and Monsanto. If we at least preserve organic farming, then we have a good basis for other positive things.

The Upanishads say something about the importance of good food (although I don't think it refers only to food that we physically eat).

There might not be hardly any avenues/platforms left in this world for doing anything positive anymore, but there is always Bodhicitta.

You just explained your' own dilemma. As a scientist you operate in the realm of sense knowledge. When one is to have motivation and hope in this current world that person would need to transcend sense knowledge with spiritual knowledge (I Corinthians 2 and Romans 8). This world is currently ending as in the end of the age of man. The next 1000 yrs. will be a whole new Edenesque beginning.

You need motivation to live? I just do what the universe does: I don't care one way or another (for myself or the others) or look for a reason for my existence - because there's none. I just exist.
