Can Vitamin C Cure Ebola?

Three West African countries are currently attempting to manage the largest outbreak of Ebola hemorrhagic fever in history. Originally reported in March as a cluster of outbreaks in southeastern Guinea, the disease has spread across the border to Liberia and, now, Sierra Leone.

As of today, 1,201 cases have been reported with 672 deaths across the three countries. While the virus has killed 56% of those people infected thus far, the disease can emerge anywhere from two to 21 days after infection. The death rate from the 1976 Zaire outbreak was nearly 90%.

Currently, no options exist for treatment of the infection other than strict isolation of infected patients from others and supportive intensive care. The broad-spectrum antiviral drug, ribavirin, is not effective against viruses like Ebola.

The way I see it, it's a combination of things that help to overcome disease.

The first on my list is having FAITH and diminishing fear.

My faith in God and leaning on Him, trusting IN Him and praying TO Him in times of ill health has
brought me through many trying times of sickness, disease and injury.

Just recently I had a broken rib/ribs and Jeremiah 30:17 was the Bible verse I meditated on.
I prayed to Him frequently and was fully confident that no matter the outcome, God was
with me as I experienced the ups and downs of that painful ordeal.

When I am walking in His Spirit, my soul is at peace, so I'm not all stressed out as when I choose to walk in the natural man.
When we are highly stressed, we are far more likely to succumb to illness.

Second, I ask for wisdom in teaching me discipline when it comes to taking care of my health.
I'm bad to my body--I deprive it of sleep, I drink more coffee than I should and my diet isn't
always the best, but God continues to renew my mind in becoming responsible for this body He gave me.

I'm getting better with His help.

Sleep is important, and healing. I'm working on trying to get more than the five hours
I get each night(sometimes less, especially during the time of the broken ribs).

I am a firm believer in Vitamin C consumption as a way of building your immune system. I noticed the OP article
mentions Alpha-Lipoic Acid. Personally, I can't take it, it makes me feel odd. However, I do know many that have
improved their health when including this supplement in their diet.

Third, I wash my hands frequently and I always remind others to do the same. Most of you have seen the movie
"Contagion". Remember when Dr. Mears said that the average person touches their face between 2,000 and 3,000 times per
day? I found that hard to believe until I made a conscious effort one day to count how many times I touched
my face--I lost count after I reached 1,000. So, with the recent Ebola scare, I am trying not to touch my face and,
like with the hands, I'm telling everyone else the same.
