I won't be buying any silver in the UK, since it attracts a VAT of 20%. Gold sovereigns, however, are VAT-free, and I'm keeping an eye on the price. I might buy a bunch if they fall to £75 or so.

silver is mined mostly as a byproduct of other metal's
mining operations.

chasing an asset down in price is generally considered
to be a bad move.
Especially if its coming down from a bubble price.

back before the dotcom bubble crash we used to do that
in penny stocks.
