Health advisory: Officials confirm algae in Willamette River is toxic!
I never knew algae could be toxic. Full of little critters yes, not taste yummy yes, toxic, no.

snips...

That health advisory for the river now extends from Ross Island to Sauvie Island, flowing through the heart of downtown Portland.

“Accidental swallowing of water containing these toxins may produce such symptoms as numbness, tingling, dizziness, weakness, diarrhea, nausea, cramps and fainting,” health officials said. “Inhalation of water droplets can lead to breathing problems, sneezing, coughing or runny nose. Skin contact can cause skin irritation, including a rash. Symptoms usually occur in less than 24 hours.”

Children and pets are especially at risk. Dogs could die within an hour, officials said.

Not everyone. I read another article on it saying a local triathlon has decided to skip the swimming part of it. Come to think of it, I guess they can't call it a triathlon any longer. cool2

We a high water lake for those hundred years storms and the last four years it's had that bad toxic algae it could kill dogs and people. It is spread by the water foul as they carry it on their bodies. Like stopping immigration across the borders. Plus the counties are checking boats for Zebra mussel Invasive Species. Can't check wild life it's getting worst. Lots of fresh water is getting this algae.
