Updated California Drought Pictures
All of these photos were taken by me. I am most likely expecting another dry year based on the current blocking pattern over the West Coast. Computer models are showing 2-3 weeks of a blocking pattern with an exception of a light storm system on Thursday. We need a lot of rain to fill these lakes back up again.

Chesbro Dam. 0.8% of capacity. Nearly a Dead Pool.

San Luis Reservoir. 18% of capacity.

Uvas Reservoir. 4.5% of capacity.

Mega ridge developing over the west coast after this light rain system....

Re: Updated California Drought Pictures
Our local weatherman has been trying to update us regarding a winter pattern. He says the overall weather pattern in North America hasn’t really changed much since last fall.
Says there is big warm area of water off the west coast into the Gulf Of Alaska. That forces a huge ridge of high pressure up the west coast into Alaska. The warm pool is still there and is forecast to remain there through the upcoming winter.
If that holds true it wont be good for California at all.Of course its still very early to forecast but...

I really hope things improve.I dont think many people have thought about how bad this is going to affect everyone as it continues to get worse.
We depend on California for a lot, probably a lot more than most realize, and if they dont produce then it has to be gotten elsewhere at much higher prices IF IT CAN BE GOTTEN AT ALL.

That aside its going to be a terrible loss to people property wise and many other ways.Just a sad desperate situation getting worse by the day.

Californians, on the "keep hope alive" side of things...

Here in Minnesota, earlier this year we had a years long drought that left much of the state in extreme, devastating drought.

Then after a few weeks of record setting rain last June, none of the state of Minnesota was in drought.

It sounds corny, it can happen, and it did here!

Big storm off the pacific. Unfortunately it will considerably weaken with a ridge trying to build in.

LOL so do you get your hopes up like this every time it's 20%?

LMAO, funny stuff. Not only does your football team ruin your dreams and hopes, so does mother nature.

There is currently no explanation to thew warm temperatures off the coast. The drought may be tied to the warm northern pacific waters hindering the jetstream to head up north instead of south. That is just a theory at this point.

With the water levels so low, did you do a little treasure hunting down in the muck? Looks like you could find some goodies down there now that the water is gone...

But then its California. They don't want industry there.

I thought the West was always a desert?

The past 100 years or so was just a random event.

Though you do have the redwood forest.

Either way, Cali will probably end up like Nevada and Arizona soon enough.

It took 8 years to fill Lake Mead after the Hoover Dam was built.
...and consider the population and the water use back then versus now.

Even a hurricane is not going to stop what is going on.
A hurricane may slow the process down a bit.....but it's not going to stop the weather pattern change that is going on.
