why don't preachers say much about the old testament?
I understand that Jesus is a very crucial part of Christianity, but there are many other books that get consistently ignored.

Here are the books that are preached about, in my experience:

Genesis, Exodus, 1 & 2 Samuel, Psalms, Proverbs, Isaiah, the Gospels, Acts, Romans, Hebrews, and Revelations.

Why does nobody ever talk about the following:

Ruth, Nehemiah, Kings, Chronicles, Judges (sort of), Numbers, Leviticus, and the Minor Prophets.

The minor prophets books are small, but they are pretty jam packed full of information.

Yes, the New Testament is for today, but the Old Testament is like the base. It really just seems to be ignored, in favor of dogma that grandpa talked about.

We have so much information at our disposal, and it has caused somewhat of a revolution in Christianity. Dogma still rules though.

Maybe they would run across something they can't explain, and would therefore lose credibility?

I don't know for sure of course, which is why I am asking here. A place where there are many different Christian views.

What are your guys thoughts on this?

Because jesus didnt fullfill the prophecies of the old testament for the messiah.

Thats why judaism rejects jesus.

Re: why don't preachers say much about the old testament?
...because most Christians, including pastors, lack all but the most elementary understanding of the Bible because they refuse to read and study it for themselves. The church is full of breastfeeding babies that have not cut any teeth to eat meat. Most of the preachers of big churches, particularly those on TV, will spend an hour preaching and barely mention any scripture at all. There is no discipleship. There is basically no difference between so called believers and the rest of the world. As such, most cannot even agree on the basic tenets of the faith, hence the thousands of denominations, so they are unable to dig into the OT, which requires deeper study of history, culture, etymology, and other things to grasp its nuances properly.

Old Testament is loaded with Aliens and Alien Technology. They don't want to get questions about and have to explain, "Fiery Serpents" , "Flying Wheels", "Pillars of Fire", etc...

Of course there are some that are more "right", but its undeniable that MOST preachers are how I described them in the OP.

Re: why don't preachers say much about the old testament?
Go ask your preacher why they never mention the two totally different creation stories. Gen 1 we see the Creator God who created both male and female in our image on the 6th day and rested on the 7th but in Gen 2 the Lord god created Adam from Dirt and created Eve from Adams Rib. The Lord God also put restrictions on humans and tempted them with a talking serpent. Ask why no preacher talks about that?

Peace

Re: why don't preachers say much about the old testament?
Preachers don't understand that G-D is one. They don't have the education needed to understand the old language of the Torah. Jesus, the holy spirit and what ever man claims to be a G-D is just a mortal man. Mohammad is just a man as well. These people are not G-Ds.

The message is that G-d is one.

I think he was supposed to make a glorious entrance into Jerusalem. Instead Jesus rode in on a donkey.

Re: why don't preachers say much about the old testament?
angra,

Preachers, ministers, some priests do not say much about
the New Testament for they want to please instead of telling
you how to save your soul.

The "narrow gate" is narrow for a reason. God wants us to
be holy, which requires rejecting the world's ways.
