Processed Meats Too Dangerous for Human Consumption
The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has completed a detailed review of more than 7,000 clinical studies covering links between diet and cancer.1 Bottom line: Processed meats are too dangerous for human consumption. Consumers should stop buying and eating all processed meat products for the rest of their lives.

Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami and virtually all red meat used in frozen prepared meals. They are usually manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite.2 This is used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. Unfortunately, sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines in the human body. And this leads to a sharp increase in cancer risk for those who eat them.

A 2005 University of Hawaii study found that processed meats increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by 67 percent.3 Another study revealed that every 50 grams of processed meat consumed daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 21 percent.4 These are alarming numbers. Note that these cancer risks do not come from eating fresh, non-processed meats. They only appear in people who regularly consume processed meat products containing sodium nitrite.

sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines in the human body. And this leads to a sharp increase in cancer risk for those who eat them.

A lot of the health nuts aren't all that healthy. In many cases, their health hysteria is just a front for eating disorders.

Many of the so-called health nuts rely solely on abstaining from a long list of items rather than engaging in positive, pro-active behavior such as exercise.

Sorry Bud but you are WRONG my devon meat Looks brown enough to me it doesn't have sodium nitrite at all dude they are both SALTS I eat it by the bucketloads and I have a PERFECT spleen, Pancreas, Gall bladder and kidneys the only thing wrong with me was from a car accident tore my right hip to pieces it's still sore 4 years later but it gets better with exercise which I do enough of!

WHO THE FUCK WOULD EAT RED (RAW) MEAT!

Medicine.

Sodium nitrite can be used as part of an intravenous mixture with sodium thiosulfate to treat cyanide poisoning.

It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medication needed in a basic health system.

There is also research to investigate its applicability towards treatments for heart attacks, brain aneurysms, pulmonary hypertension in infants, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections.

Inhibition of microbial growth

Sodium nitrite is well known for its role in inhibiting the growth of Clostridium botulinum spores in refrigerated meats. (botulism)
The mechanism for this activity results from the inhibition of iron-sulfur clusters essential to energy metabolism of Clostridium botulinum.

However, sodium nitrite has had varying degrees of effectiveness for controlling growth of other spoilage or disease causing microorganisms.

Even though the inhibitory mechanisms for sodium nitrite are not well known, its effectiveness depends on several factors including residual nitrite level, pH, salt concentration, reductants present and iron content.

Furthermore, the type of bacteria also affects sodium nitrites effectiveness.

It is generally agreed upon that sodium nitrite is not considered effective for controlling gram-negative enteric pathogens such as Salmonella and Escherichia coli.[16]

Re: Processed Meats Too Dangerous for Human Consumption
Everything we eat and drink now is bad. I can't believe they actually came up with plastic fillers in bread. All kinds of things have additives to prolong freshness and nice color. Animals used for food are full of antibiotics and chemicals from fertilizers and pesticides. Lots of people don't adequately wash fresh fruits and vegetables. Organics don't guarantee pesticides weren't used. Plastic bags and containers we aren't sure don't leach chemicals into the food. Our bodies weren't designed to eat cooked meats, especially those cooked in grease. We go back and forth on margarine, butter and vegetable oils on what is safe.

I still eat bacon, sausages on occasion. Some foods I know are all that good but I eat them anyway. After reading warnings on seafood I rarely eat it now since you can never be sure where it came from. I stopped going to fast food restaurants year ago. Now we have chain restaurants all over and I'm not so sure about them but I go.

This is why we buy our meat from a butcher who freshly grinds up the sausage daily. He also provides hams and other meats. We don't buy from chain stores such as WM. It is no more expensive and I like talking to the butchers.

My grandmother lived to 104. Both my parents lived to mid 80s. We ate meat, potatoes, bread, and a vegetable at every meal. They canned a lot of food. I think it is all of the pesticides and other crap in our food that does us in these days.

Processed meat is toxic, yes.

Find nitrate/nitrite-free meats. They exist usually locally if you live in the right area. I only eat bacon as far as the "processed" meats go, and it's old school bacon. You have to ask yourself just how in the fuck they preserved meat before all of these fancy chemicals and shit... and why we "need" this chemical garbage.

Today we have refrigeration, and proper cooking techniques.

I understand what the OP is saying and in short i agree but the term processed needs to be more specific to the types of meats the OP has listed.
The minute you kill a beast for meat and butcher it it is being "processed". Obviosly the degree in which it is processed is the key factor. All those listed by the OP are "highly processed".
