And THIS:

Islands of volcanic origin, such as the Canaries, have an especially large potential for triggering a tsunami. That the Canaries constitute a danger was shown 300 000 years ago when a part of the island El Hierro slid into the sea, triggering a mega-tsunami which carried rocks as high as a house for many hundreds of metres into the interior of the east coast of what is today the USA.

You seem a bit obsessed with this potential, yet unlikely event.

If you live on the East Coast, and this possibility is that distracting for you, why don't you just move West?

Seriously, why worry about something, if, even if it were going to happen, there's no way to stop it?

For the last two weeks the Heliplots for the Canary Islands have been almost solid black. It has been said that if part of the island breaks off in an earthquake, that it would likely cause a devastating tsunami for the east coast of the US.

they don't say if, they say when this happens, there will be a wall of water probably a hundred feet of more and it will go twenty miles inland and take just nine hours to get here and it will be the largest human catastrophe in the history of the world.

at least 60 million or more will die....
 Quoting: thetrickybigguy

This theory seems like utter bullshit. Also, if that shit happens 9 hours is decent amount of time to try and head inland.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15674350

Mathematically, you could "walk at a brisk pace" to the west for nine hours and make it to safety. There would, however, be plenty of casualties.

But if 20 miles inland is destroyed on the east coast, you're talking trillions of dollars in damage. Unrecoverable, and our enemies would surely Red Dawn us in our disoriented state.
 Quoting: FritoBandito

not here in so fl you couldn't...

it's only twenty miles from the bch to the everglades so there's no where to go and if 5M people tried to get out of sl fl the roads would be gridlocked.

couple of paragraphs from the rense article....

we'll all be dead here on the 'gold coast'.

But the built up coastal areas of Florida, Brazil and the Caribbean were expected to suffer the greatest destruction, according to a new forecast by Dr Simon Day, of the Benfield Greig Hazard Research Centre at University College London.

Here, the wave would reach heights of 130ft to 164ft - higher than Nelson's column - and travel four or five miles inland flattening everything in its path.

The one recording of the Canary Islands.

Thats a lot if ink OP.

Yes if the slope of El Hierro falls, most likely a devastating tsunami will hit Europe and the east Coast.

It's swifter than Ebola and 'climate change', less shameful than being invaded and overtaken or beheaded and smoother than radio-active poisoning...I'm all for it!!!

First time I hear the resulting wave would hit Europe but I'll take it....

It's about volume displacement and total energy release. It is likely there will be serious tsunamis in the Canaries, perhaps even 50-footers on the west coast of Africa. Coastal U.S. will get maybe 3-5 feet.

Some would beg to differ...

The computer model, compiled in collaboration with Steven Ward of the University of California, Santa Cruz, predicts that the tsunami will have a height of 100 metres (330ft) from crest to trough when it crashes into the shores of nearby north-west Africa. By the time it reached its final destination, the east coast of Florida and the Caribbean islands, the tsunami would still be up to 50 metres high.

Low-lying land in Florida would be vulnerable to a sea wave that would inundate the mainland for several kilometres inland. Everything in its path would be flattened, the computer model predicted.
