God1337 User ID: 63449757 United States 09/30/2014 10:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Diagnosed disease victim flew back to U.S. on public flight, is under strict quarantine protocol to prevent the spread of the deadly disease The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday announced a sobering detail in the global fight against Central Africa's ebolavirus (EBOV) epidemic. An unidentified male patient, reportedly an aid worker, became the first patient to be diagnosed with EBOV when test results came back positive early this week. This is the first time an American was ever first-diagnosed in the U.S. with an EBOV infeciton. Previously, five American aid workers had tested positive for EBOV infections. But their diagnosis came overseas and was followed by an airlift back home for treatment at special facilities. Two received treatment at a special containment unit at the Emory University Hospital near Atlanta, Georgia. Two more were treated at a similar unit at the University of Nebraska's Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. A fifth patient -- a U.S. doctor -- is being held in isolation at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). - See more at: [link to www.dailytech.com] |
