How atheists handle the fear of death?
I was wondering how do you cope with that? Knowing that there's no life after death. You will be dead forever. Isn't it terrifying for you?

Why must there be a God to believe in an afterlife?

Death I think it is an organic process that happen naturally to everyone.

No sky fairy handing out justice when you arrive.

No need for a god in this scenario. It just seems that religious people can't grasp this concept and make the condescending assumption they know what atheist believe.

When I became an atheist I immediately lost my fear of death.
I'm not an atheist anymore, by my definition, however I still remember the great relief I felt at that time.

Nope.

What about the time before you were born?

Does it bother you that you didn't exist for billions of years?

Or agnostics.
Some evidence of reincarnation, but not much.
First we found out the earth was not the center of the universe, or even our own solar system.
Today we know that there are a hundred billion galaxies, with a hundred billion suns each.
We are less than pond scum in camoarison, even less than viruses, clinging to a rock at the edge of our galaxy.
Religiontard cant get around that, they are so desperate to
not "die" and live forever that they will believe anything a
holy man will say, which is great for the holyman.
The Pope lives in a room with GOLD wallpaper, wears houseslippers everywhere, has it made, while millions starve.
Ever wonder why?
You can ignore the consequences of
your actions, but you cannot ignore
the RESULTS of the consequences of your actions

Having known many (and once married to an atheist) at time of death they do not do well.

The difference between believers and and non believers during difficult times and especially failing health, you do not want to care for an atheist. They begin to panic and would rather take others down then face their own death.

I don't believe in a certain religion.
I strongly believe in the after life.
You don't need to be religious.
We are all the same, the same thing happens to us all when we die,It is how you perceive it after the event.
I Don't fear death at all, rather the opposite.
I believe in a source of light and consciousness.

If you had to be religious to go to heaven, then what about before religion?where did people go?what about cave men, neanderthals etc...

They're generally either consumed by it or far too cynical to care. When I used to be an atheist, I was the former variant.

There was no time in which you didn't exist, since without consciousness there is no time

either you're conscious and extant here and now or your conscious and extant in a different framework of here and now

the arrow of time is illusory

you can't experience nothingness

non existence is not an experience

it doesn't exist at all, save for in theory

You don't have any consciousness when you're dead either, or hit by big enough fist.
So death probably feels the same when you're unconscious.

Anyone that says they are not afraid of death is one of three things.

1) in so much pain that death is the only escape.

2) a true believer without any doubt.

3) or a liar.

OR there is one more category,

those that are so young they know no better.

Why fear the unavoidable? Death is just as much a part of life as eating is. You don't fear eating your lunch, do you?

Besides, I'd rather enjoy the short time I have here without focusing on the inevitable end, whenever that may be.

I don't pretend to know what, if anything, comes after death. Nobody knows. Everybody speculates. It's all speculation. I figure I'll know when I get there. And if there is no "there" to get to, then I won't be around to know I'm dead, so no problem either way. In the meantime, have fun with life and don't take shit too seriously. Just in case it's the only life you do get for real.
