EXCELLENT question, and I will be watching this thread with interest. Maybe someone could set up an actual poll?

BTW, healthcare workers are heroes, in my book -- and yes, I know they are paid for doing their work, but they could have chosen other, less dangerous and helpful, fields to earn a paycheck.

Kudos to you and others like you, Rose!

Not a hero. And hindsight is definitely 20/20. I should have been a teacher.

in case of an ebola out brake you can compare the job ob a healthcare worker to that of our soldiers. they do their job, knowing it might cost their lives.

they have been and still are america's real treasure!

Nursing has changed so much in the last 40 years. I thank God every day that I was able to retire from it.

I too had to be tested for TB and go through a year's treatment as a preventative measure. Also had to be checked for the aids virus after a needle stick.

It's worse now and I would definitely not expose my family to anything I might bring home from work.

Life is too short OP. Think about getting out now.

I agree, our healthcare workers and ancillary support services are definitely heroes in my mind. Every day putting their own health at risk of exposure all the while having to deal with the care of the individuals. I was an EMT many years ago, and bailed because of the risk of exposure. I primarily learned the skills involved with emergency care to be able to respond to my own family's needs having lived in a remote area. I couldn't deal with the fear of catching something and bringing it home to my children. I also think the support services staff have very difficult jobs that don't get any recognition. Such as "housekeeping". They are dealing with the risk every day. First hand exposure. I hope our infectious control organizations can get their shit together so our healthcare workers can feel confident about the protective measures being initiated. We need our healthcare personnel, and we need them to be protected so they can help us all.
