Quoting: Anonymous Coward 58725172 Yep, part of the VIACOM family. Thanks Lamplite Have been waiting for a VICE EBOLA doc. I enjoy VICE documentaries too, but recognize they are heavily influence by corporate agendas. "Established by Suroosh Alvi, Shane Smith, and Gavin McInnes, the magazine was launched in 1994 as the Voice of Montreal with government funding, and the intention of the founders was to provide work and a community service.[4] When the editors later sought to dissolve their commitments with the original publisher Alix Laurent, they bought him out and changed the name to Vice in 1996. In search of more streetwear advertising income, the magazine's personnel relocated to New York City in 1999.[5] Andy Capper co-founded the UK division of Vice with Andrew Creighton. In mid-August 2013, Rupert Murdoch's corporation 21st Century Fox invested US$70 million in Vice Media, resulting in a 5 percent stake. Following the announcement, Smith explained, "We have set ourselves up to build a global platform but we have maintained control."[6][7] In June 2014, it was reported that Time Warner was negotiating to acquire a stake in Vice Media; among the company's plans were to give Vice control over the programming of HLN—a spin-off network of CNN which had recently struggled in its attempts to re-focus itself as a younger-skewing, social media-oriented news service. However, the deal fell through as the companies were unable to agree on a proper valuation.[8][9] In turn, it was revealed on August 29, 2014 that A&E Networks—a joint venture of Hearst Corporation and The Walt Disney Company, would acquire a 10% minority stake in Vice Media for $250 million." Anonymous Coward User ID: 61867734 Canada 10/08/2014 11:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I watched the videos last night, really interesting watch. Very sad to see what the people over there are dealing with - insufficient aid and a complete lack of infrastructure following years of war and exploitation. Fingers crossed (with all my heart) that resources will be provided in a manner that helps the people in the short and long terms. And so, so much respect for those front line workers. |
