Definitely the Wheel of Time series!! That man was a writer and a half. The world lost a magnificent story teller when he passed away.

Closer to two men by my estimates.
That’s the thing about progress; all the word means is “continued movement in the same direction.” If the direction was a bad idea to start with, or if it’s passed the point at which it still made sense, continuing to trudge blindly onward into the gathering dark may not be the best idea in the world. Break out of that mental straitjacket, and the range of possible futures broadens out immeasurably.

Saving CeeCee Honeycutt: by Beth Hoffman

Twelve-year-old CeeCee Honeycutt is in trouble. For years, she has been the caretaker of her mother, Camille, the town’s tiara-wearing, lipstick-smeared laughingstock, a woman who is trapped in her long-ago moment of glory as the 1951 Vidalia Onion Queen of Georgia. When tragedy strikes, Tootie Caldwell, CeeCee’s long-lost great-aunt, comes to the rescue and whisks her away to Savannah. There, CeeCee is catapulted into a perfumed world of prosperity and Southern eccentricity—one that appears to be run entirely by strong, wacky women. From the exotic Miz Thelma Rae Goodpepper, who bathes in her backyard bathtub and uses garden slugs as her secret weapons; to Tootie's all-knowing housekeeper, Oletta Jones; to Violene Hobbs, who entertains a local police officer in her canary-yellow peignoir, the women of Gaston Street keep CeeCee entertained and enthralled for an entire summer.

Salem's Lot. Stephen King. Vampires try to take over a small New England town.

The best vampire novel since Dracula and please don't read the romantic claptrap passing for vampire novels these days.

Its about f'ing time some writer put some teeth back on the vampire.

Wow, this is a wonderful thread OP!

I love to read and would never be able to pick only one book as my favorite
because as I grow, I change but along the way some books have stayed among my favorites. Many have already been mentioned.

Richard Bach's "illusions" was fabulous.
Jane Robert's "Nature of Personal Reality" changed my life in some ways.
At different times I have thrilled over Tom Robbin's books and did love " Skinny legs and All".
"The Pliocene saga" by Julian May and the Perelandra Series by C.S. Lewis were my favorite science fiction.
"Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" is top notch.

But one of the funniest books I have ever read is called " Handling Sin"
by Michael Malone. At the time I really needed to laugh and this book did the trick and still does. Go read the first review on Amazon as he sums it up for me. Will not disappoint.

Too many of them to pick any particular one, really.

But Tor Nørretranders' work, especially 'The User Illusion'
seems to resurface in my mind every now and then - many
years after reading. All of it struck me as very profound
commentary to what I needed to re-remember at the time...umh,
so to speak. The good Mr Nørretranders sort of verbalizes
the intuitive clarity that might hit a pothead like yours
truly once in a cool while.

Like after a good surprise- bonghit

All have been rh+ that got ebola in the usa, which btw is mostly rh O positive. They won't give us the date to what blood types get ebola in Africa, but they are mostly rh+O.

Spain, Asia mostly rh+ A, rh+B and ab+ mingled around.

It is my understanding this is weaponized to kill off as many as possible, so rh+s.

There are less rh-s in the world. This isn't a race bioweapon, its a blood type or genetic weapon.

God gene plays into this. Maybe the ebola vaccine will destroy the god gene Vmatt2.

Zmapp, to destroy Vmatt gene. No vaccine or serum for me, I won't need it. I'm protected, and covered by the blood of Jesus.

The entire Wheel of Time Series By Robert Jordan.
The first book in the original books is "The Eye of the World.

These books can easily keep you in "bookland" for at least 6 months much longer for slower readers.

They tried a children's (teen) series and split book 1 into 2 books.

BTW I read "The Hot Zone" today 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Very easy reading.

1) Invasion Occupation Awakening by Haitham Alsarraf

I've been stationed here for a while and just came across this book by pure accident. It's a collection of short stories about the first Gulf War in Kuwait. The writer does not only retell first hand experiences through fictional prose, but he instills poetic prose to universalize the characters (hence awakening) in philosophical ways such as hope in hopelessness, and fearlessness in death. Some chapters are generic in plot, but the 3rd person omniscient narrator easily enriches throughout. I'm surprised this hasn't been exposed to the west more. Just my 2 cents.

Little, Big
By John Crowley

Here is the amazon review:

John Crowley's masterful Little, Big is the epic story of Smoky Barnable, an anonymous young man who travels by foot from the City to a place called Edgewood; not found on any map to marry Daily Alice Drinkawater, as was prophesied. It is the story of four generations of a singular family, living in a house that is many houses on the magical border of an otherworld. It is a story of fantastic love and heartrending loss; of impossible things and unshakable destinies; and of the great Tale that envelops us all. It is a wonder.

[link to www.amazon.com]

This is a beautifully, and strangly, written novel.
John Crowley somehow makes the unreal seem perfectly acceptable.

Smokey (who begins the story) is so anonymous and forgetable that people actually sit on top of him on busses without realising it.

Violet Bramble (the matriarch, yet she is always child-like) teaches her children, above all else, how to forget.

However, Ariel Hawksquill is a master of The Magical Art of Memory.

Grandfather Trout (yes, he is a fish, sort of) gives advice such as "The things that make us happy make us wise".

Auberon wonders what kind of a family could just lose a child?
But then he remembers the Real Lilac, the Fake Lilac and the Imaginary Lilac.

Here is an interestin take on it:

BLACK IS WHITE: My Experience as Jesuit Priest
by
Michael Matthew Casey

Just recently September 26th, 2014, a paedophile catholic bishop was arrested for child pornography. This makes Michael Matthew Caseys autobiographical book regarding his experiences when he joined the Jesuits at 18 and finally left 18 years later after struggling with the inconsistencies and inequities he found in the order. He came up in the Jesuits at the same time as paedophiles like
Josef Wesolowski and describes how paedophiles like this bishop caused bankruptcies of church provinces in the northwest for their activities. In addition, he describes how the church facilitated these individuals. Black is White is a self-published book on Amazon:
[link to www.amazon.com]

If you've ever wondered how this could happen in institutions cherishing holiness then this is a must read. Michael Casey is straight and now a grandfather of 5 but spent his early years struggling to resolve the inconsistencies he found in the order with reality.

A Deepness In The Sky
By: Vernor Vinge

Fantastic sci-fi written by one of the leading thinkers on the technological singularity. I love this one and have read it many times. Some of the things he comes up with (like the localizer net) are just insane to consider given what they're capable of and in the not too distant future. This book is set many thousands of years in the future and is full of mind twisting technology and situations.

Go to Amazon and check it out. If you enjoy sci-fi, this one will surely be a cherished keeper.
